Backwards, forwards.. just so long as you vote!

After pushing so hard for so many of our organizations in these online voting contests, it’s refreshing to ask you to vote for us this time! Both Phoenix Rising and PANDORA are in the Bogs (lovely name) Footwear contest in which the top two charities will each win $2,500 (£1,700, €1,900), and we can all vote for both.

Phoenix Rising, of course, provides the ME/CFS community with reliable information, advocacy, support for other charities and a busy forum; PANDORA Org advocates and educates about neuro-immune diseases including ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, Lyme and Gulf War Illness, targeting local and national US government agencies to influence policy and improve patients’ lives.

Both deserve our mouse-clicks and each of us can vote for both charities so we don’t have to choose between them. Although the contest is for US and Canadian charities, it appears that votes are being accepted from anywhere in the world.

How to vote

1. Log in to your Facebook account.
2. Go here to vote for Phoenix Rising.
3. Click the 'Like' button on the top right.
4. Click on ‘Vote’ and you will be asked to let Photo Contest access your public profile, friend list and likes. You can't vote without clicking 'OK' but you can click 'Skip' in the next pop-up to prevent Photo Contest posting to your friends on your behalf. Once you’ve voted for PANDORA Org, you can remove Photo Contest from your Facebook apps (see below).
5. Go here to vote for PANDORA Org.
6. If you wish to remove Photo Contest from your Facebook apps, go to your Facebook homepage (from any Facebook page, click on 'home' on the top right). Click on 'App Centre' in the lefthand sidebar and in the new sidebar that appears, click on 'Your apps'. Move your pointer over 'Photo Contest' and click on the 'x' that appears in the top right of that box to delete the app.

Done! Thank you. And you know the next bit by now: please tell your friends and family to vote too! The closing date of Wednesday, 24 July is very close.

The state of play

At the time of writing, PANDORA is already in third place and Phoenix Rising, who only entered a few hours ago, is already 14th in a field of 36. The current leaders only have 400 and 300 votes respectively; when our community turn out in force we can gather thousands of votes and we have a spectacular record of wins. In fact, we’ve won over $400,000 (£270,000, €310,000) in such contests already. We can certainly achieve this and get much-needed funds for our organisations who do so much for us.

Let’s win this one – let’s get voting!

Remember that Phoenix Rising costs money to run and needs your donations to support it. Please hit the button below and donate!

I did a day or so ago, when I couldn't figure out that I need to click the "Like" button outside of the popup box, before the button inside the box :p

Haven't you also got to say 'Okay' to 'Photo Contest' too? I don't especially like some company having access to my Facebook friends or my home page - but I don't understand Facebook. So can someone tell me what that is all about please? Thanks :)

After I'd tried out my instructions on PANDORA and my article had been published, I then voted for Phoenix Rising and had to like the Photo Contest too, surprisingly.

helen41, is this necessary? And if so, what are the implications for people? (Anyone else knowledgeable about Facebook, please feel free to answer).

I only use Facebook for online voting contests and have set up an account attached to a dummy email account that isn't in my real name (to dissuade people from trying to contact me socially, since I won't be replying to any contacts). I don't mind 'liking' stuff for that reason but it's a personal choice if your account is 'real'.

So...

This morning, we've got:

1. Some puppies :confused: with 488
2. Windsong school: 316
3. Some Dobermans :confused::confused:: 287
4. PANDORA :): 233
[...]
10. Phoenix Rising :cool: : 81

So we're underway but need to get cracking so let's get on with it - vote! Tell your friends! Remember, we've only got until next Wednesday.

I already had the photo contest app installed, so I guess I didn't see that you had to give it permissions. I suppose you could simple allow the app and delete it right away. Your vote would still count.I do an app sweep every couple of months, and deleting them is not difficult. If you delete an app you still use, you will simply have to allow it again next time you use it, so there isn't much of a risk of doing anything wrong.
go to "app center" on the lower left of your FB page
go to "your apps" on the lower left
click the little "x" on each app that you want to delete

Thank you, Helen. I did not know about this app center feature. I just went to check it and discovered a lot of apps which I have just deleted.:)

The current state of play:

1. Puppies: 559
2=. Windsong School: 371
2=. Dobermans: 371
4. PANDORA: 368
5. Search & Rescue: 180
6. Phoenix Rising: 127

So, PANDORA very close to getting into the coveted top two while we're still in our run-up.

A lot of our fundraising team who'd normally be posting this all over the place are on the sick list so if you can not only vote but spread the word on Facebook, that would be great.

Let's bag that money! :)

Bogs just responded to a question on their wall and clarified there are 2 US prizes AND 2 Canadian prizes. We haven't been able to read the rules, so we had no idea. May12th nominated ME/FM Action Network http://woobox.com/nopbx5/vote/for/1007334
Please give them a one time vote. I have a call in to MEFM Society of BC to see if we can get them in as well.
Unfortunately, the chronic diseases clinic would not qualify as their operating budget is too high, from what I can tell
