New research shows that a DNA virus is implicated in the debilitating autoimmune disease, Intersititial Cystitis. Interstitial cystitis is frequently comorbid (occurs in tandem with) Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, so this is worth checking out:

Oi' I have IC! It frickin' SUCKS. SUCKS. SUCKS. :( *grrrr*

I had no idea it could connect to CFS though, holy goats.
Yes, it's frequently comorbid to CFS, fibromyalgia and other autoimmune and/or neuroimmune disorders:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3415690/
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022534705611445

What is stranger is that the biological mechanisms at work in ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, and other autoimmune diseases are largely similar. Cytokine abnormalities and anomalies in purinergic signaling are just a few. Thyroid disorders all also comorbid to all autoimmune diseases.

What disturbs me about this virus affecting IC patients, the BK virus, is that it's endemic to all human beings in the bladder. Immune system compromise is cited as the factor that causes BK virus to become active: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BK_virus

Another interesting thing about IC is that cats get it too. There's a veterinary researcher who developed a blood test for IC from studying the disease in cats.

IC is dismissed like CFS and Simon Wessely and other "researchers" call it psychiatric. The funny thing is that cats don't get mental illnesses!:cat:

It also may connect with MCAS...mast cell disease. You might look at MCAS treatment options as well, specifically Pentosan.
Apparently, there has been amazing success treating patients by doing bladder installations with an antiviral called Cidofovir. The treatment decreased frequency dramatically and the results were sustained for 8 months after the treatment:

My urologist wouldn't do that for me though. I'm glad acyclovir is working for you. Probably easier to get.
