Can You Come for a Visit? My ME/CFS Says No
My daughter and son-in-law just had a baby last week. We are thrilled. But we won't be able to see the baby or hold her any time soon. We won't be able to take over little gifts or help out with housework or babysitting.

[I'm not 100% sure it is new. The phrase, "Center for Genomic Regulation Affected Foundation" only had one result! But I'm guessing it's a translation]

Wanted the molecular basis of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome

    March 2

Just days after the commissioning of the DNA bank to investigate the chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, and Center for Genomic Regulation Affected Foundation / as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have signed a collaboration agreement to develop a research project on these diseases.

Prolonged and intense fatigue, widespread pain and stiffness are the main characteristics of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. Now, a collaboration agreement between the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and the Foundation of Affected / as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Foundation (FF) aims to develop a research project to analyze the genetic component of both disorders.

The project is a long name, Identifying genetic susceptibility factors for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome And shall be developed at the Center for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, led by Xavier Estivill. For the researcher, "this initiative seeks to study and identify genomic variants associated with fibromyalgia to further the cause of the disease and identify potential therapeutic targets capable of influencing the pain caused by this pathology.

The analysis of genes, including a comprehensive partnership that will analyze a million variants of the genome of each individual, performed with DNA samples of the Bank of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, the Foundation has developed for FF promote research into these diseases and to make available to this project samples and clinical information to a total of 4,000 people, including patients, relatives and healthy controls.
Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are highly prevalent diseases and a high impact on the population and diseases are still unknown. Some studies have pointed to the possible role of genetic variants in the genes of the serotonergic pathways, dopaminergic or catecholaminergic.

The most plausible hypothesis is that fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome refers to complex processes, in which case genetic factors and environmental influences. That is why the identification of the biological basis of fibromyalgia requires a research design that integrates genomic and epidemiologic approaches in a number of very well-characterized clinical samples.

The work was coordinated by the Genome Spain Foundation commissioned by Esteve, one of the largest private laboratories for the pharmaceutical industry, will provide new clues about the mechanisms of development of these diseases and symptoms, from which will support research that would advance treatment.

This news item seems to be from 2008 so maybe there will be some results soon.

There is a link to a previous paper on the Foundation's website (The website is in Spanish)

Well, I'm happy anytime anyone investigates a biological cause.
