I just sent OFFER the info you posted in the first message in this thread to see if they want to participate. Their email is: support@offerutah.org

I asked them to send you a message through the PR website or let me know and I will relay the word on to you.

Hi frenchtulip - I also contacted (via a friend) OFFER and the other research groups on Frank's list - don't suppose it will hurt to have two people telling them about the opportunity, though!

As I pointed out, some foundations will definitely qualify - I know the National CFIDS Foundation were listed last time.

Yes, I contacted all these and the Morton Fund who are under U Miami so not eligible. I've got a query into Chase about small groups under large umbrellas (specifically about the Pacific Lab/Workwell) which may apply to others and am waiting for a reply. I'll post as soon as I get a yes/no from anyone.

After figuring out which charities are eligible and would like to participate, I think we should get a commitment from each group on what they would do with the $$$. And, if they do win, they should give us regular updates on the distribution and use of the money.

Additionally, they should use the funds to further the cause now, not keep it in their coffers for a couple of years. I'd like to see this sort of thing agreed upon in advance.

Help needed!

My helpful emailing friend has heard back from the Morton Fund (not eligible) and the Pacific Fatigue Lab (waiting to hear about eligibility from Chase) but has heard zippo from the following even though she emailed a month ago:

Dr. Lerner's Foundation
Dr. Chia's Enterovirus Foundation
Dr Bell's Lyndonville Research Group
OFFER

It may be that they rarely check their email or that my friend's email has ended up in their spamcatchers (despite a clear message title about research funding).

Does anyone have some relationship to any of these groups such that they'd expect to get a reply to an email? Or could phone them? We need to know (a) if they'd be willing to enter the contest so that they have a chance of being included in our block vote and (b) whether they fit the contest criteria.

There's the text of the email we used in an earlier post of mine in this thread that explains to them what we're doing and what the contest criteria are - please feel free to use it! :D

I hope they would - but we need them to agree to enter! I don't think we can enter for them.
I think Chase may use some automatically generated lists of non-profits. But some may be able to add to it. No harm asking around of course.

I was thinking something like it Dolphin. Anyway my plan is the following: produce a list on which we the users of this forum choose the picking order on. Then if some organisation is not eligeble, we'll just remove it from the list and select the following one in line. This last audit can be done on the first day of the actual contest.

Sounds like a good plan, Frank! :D

Is it possible to have a poll in which people get multiple votes? I set up a poll here on PR a while back and can't remember an option of allowing people more than one vote each.

I think it would be important to give everyone say, 18 votes each to play with (the number we can have on our final list) so that a single organisation doesn't bag the vast majority and leave the rest with just a few votes each, making them hard to rank.

For example, with a single vote I imagine almost everyone would vote for PR and the WPI!

I was cleaning out my mailbox late last night and found this response from Dr. Bateman sent in December. I am so sorry I didn't see it earlier.

Thank you for thinking of OFFER. It sounds like a great idea and we'd love to be included. Will you let Frank know and I'll pass the information to the OFFER Board chair.
