i dont know if its testosterone as my levels have actually been good, but maybe estrogen, me estrogen has been high and high estrogen in men is known to cause alot of health issues like prostate problems, cancers, cholesterol etc. Estrogen dominance is name that is used alot and it occurrs in men and women, hormones are all about balance.

thanks for your advice heapsreal ..

I need to get a doctor or specialist to help sort out my hormone stuff (my gynos recommendation is a hysterectomy to fix some of my hormonal issues but I dont want to do that). I dont know right now how i'd get what you suggested right now till i find another doctor.

The hospital gave me a 50,000 iu dose (it was a powdered form) but that was just once. (im now meant to be on 5,000 iu per day)

Just to clarify I did test lower than the reference range at one stage (9 point something) but didn't include this as I couldn't find the documentation.

    hi Tania,
look for an intergrative preactioner, these are basically doctors who also use natural treatments and also have good knowledge of hormone modulation. Some natural medicine web sites will have doctors that they recommend. U might also find sorting out your hormones will maybe help u avoid a hysterectomy.
    good luck,

    cheers!!!

Just to add, my money would be on estrogen dominance also.

As has already been pointed out, the conventional wisom is that prostate problems (BPH and cancer) are caused by testosterone (particularly DHT). Yet prostate problems are more common in older men, who have lower free T and higher estrogen, which makes estrogen a more likely candidate.

It has also been pointed out that testosterone stimulates XMRV (did this come from the prostate cancer studies?). However, as I understand it, many receptors can be bound by either testosterone OR estrogen and in fact estrogen has a greater binding affinity. Meaning that, when both are present, estrogen is more likely to bind (and block) a given receptor.

    So we have 9/9.
I also asked yesterday in chats, and got answers from 3 people.
As far as I could understand, they weren't 100% sure of their results were below the reference values or not - but it seems that 2 had results below the reference value and 1 had a normal result. So, icnluding these results, it's 11/12 who had at least once a level of testosterone which was too low.

i agree with u Marco, your exactly right, for years the have been harping about testosterone causing alot of these health problems but the men getting sick werent actually strong testosterone producing men, the were sick men with low testosterone and high E2 (estrogen) levels. They are finding the reverse now with men who have high levels, lower risk of heart disease, diabetes etc etc

    Nothing wrong with testosterone.

    cheers!!!

reference range for hormone tests vary from each lab to each country, as a rough guide, u want to be in the middlle to upper 1/3 of the reference range for testosterone/free T , same with dhea and in the lower 1/3 of the range for estrogen(E2), for men

If I say "LOW" I mean lower the the reference range on that same test, by that same lab...

We know that Xmrv replicates under testosterone's influence. I would like to know the XMRV status of these 9 patients ( mine was negative in Jan. 2010, serology pending )

all cells grow and replicate under the influence of sex hormones, ie testosterone, estrogen and progesterone, without these hormones we would feel alot worse. The finger gets pointed at testosterone, i say look at all of them, but its not the hormones that are the problems but the retrovirus. low testosterone equals a poorly functioning immune system which further lets the retrovirus attack us.

I would also be interested in that.
heapsreal, I think that there are numoerous theories that can explain XMRV in either way. For example, if the persons with XMRV have more testosterone - they might have XMRV because of the testosterone, and if they have less testosterone, it might be the XMRV that is blocking the testosterone production, or that the body knows that testosterone helps XMRV and therefore avoid increasing the testosterone levels.

I'm a 25 year old male. My testosterone levels absolutely tanked at the exact time that my illness shifted from primarily pain issues to severe CFS about a year ago. I don't have the lab work handy at the moment. I know I was around 150 on one where the range was 350 - 1100. I think this was total testosterone. My doctor said that it should be at least 700 for someone my age.

my total T levels were within range but low and my freeT levels were below range, but my estrogen levels were too high although the ranges for estrogen in men is extremely high i wouldnt follow there ranges but a doc who know what healthy ranges are, typically should be a 1/3 of the lower range. But i dont know if im xmrv or not either.

If cfs is more common in females then u would think it would be more likely have something to do with estrogen, if not women with cfs who have beards from too much testosterone. Maybe we will find a difference between the sexes in cfs, i think we will find most guys with cfs will have low testosterone as they do with most chronic health problems.

For me my XMRV statis is unknown as I havent been able to get tested (but all the illnesses which Dr Mitovits say often go along with XMRV eg the leukemia, Aspergers... are in my family along with prostate cancer so I assume im probably certainly XMRV postive. Ive also had a blood transfusion and the EBV/mono connection fits me too).

You mentioned that your testosterone levels tanked at the same time it shifted from pain to severe CFS. Do you mind if I ask how you were controlling the pain? I went through a period that very much sounds the same.

    Thanks
