Review: 'Through the Shadowlands’ describes Julie Rehmeyer's ME/CFS Odyssey
I should note at the outset that this review is based on an audio version of the galleys and the epilogue from the finished work. Julie Rehmeyer sent me the final version as a PDF, but for some reason my text to voice software (Kurzweil) had issues with it. I understand that it is...

Power through, stop or get more testing?

I started the Yasko simplified methylation protocol and was tested through vitamin diagnostics. When I started, the dosing was too highs, so i had to stop after 5 days. I had major anxiety, chest tightness, stomach pain, headache and muscle soreness. So I stopped and have been waiting for the symptoms to die down. It is happening very slowly and the symptoms change every day.

So my question is do I stop and get more testing? Or is this normal for starting too high and I should just try and get through it? My ND has told me to back way off on the dosing and start one supp at a time, beginning with hb12. But I can't imagine beginning again and exacerbating these symptoms. I do have Lyme, and I'm wondering if I instigated a die off. But Lyme herxes usually settle out more quickly for me.

It seems like the genetic testing is in order here, but my ND doesn't do much with that and I can't afford another practitioner. I need her for her knowledge of Lyme and KPU. This is so confusing and I am not sure if this reaction I'm having is a detox or an indication that I have one or more of the SNP's. (sigh). How would one know without the testing? Or is that impossible to know?

Yes, it would be common to have such symptoms when starting too high. When methylation restarts, you'll start detoxing all the stuff that's built up over the years and you will feel worse.

I think your ND gave good advice. Stop, let everything clear out, then restart one thing at a time. I would also suggest starting with much smaller doses.

I also suggest reading Rich's papers and/or watching his video (he's the one who came up with the simplified protocol):

If you want to test SNPs also, 23andme just lowered their price to $99, so that's pretty much a no-brainer. When you get your test results upload the raw data to http://geneticgenie.org/ to get methylation results. Then read about your various SNPs at Heartfixer: http://www.heartfixer.com/AMRI-Nutrigenomics.htm

I second what caledonia said! :) Trying to "push through" usually makes things a lot worse.

I just went on the 23 and me website. Is the 23 and me a simple saliva test? Is that what Yasko is as well? This isn't a blood draw?
