@Countrygirl, Do you know if Gillian can use a solar powered battery charger there in England?

I don't know the answer to that question @AnnaDove . It sounds a very useful and appropriate item for her, but given our climate, especially in the winter when she really needs it, it may have a limited use. Certainly something she should have though as it can only improve her situation.

Thanks for responding to this super idea as you sound like a man who knows what he is talking about. :) I'm afriad it is not one of my specialist subjects,

Oh I have absolutely no idea what I am talking about :) but it's exactly what I was going to donate! Need to make sure resources are effectively allocated and we don't double donate.

@Cheesus, I saw one on Amazon. Will charge 2 batteries per 2 days. Not a lot but would help out in a pinch. I myself sent a couple packs of hand warmers and a solor powered light which doubles as a table lamp. (lamp was not expensive, about $12.00. I have read that some solar products will operate on daylight and don't have to have sun.

@Countrygirl

Has anybody tried contacting the BBC DIY SOS programme, who may be able to do something about improving her property. They are normally interested in private properties for the programme, but perhaps could be persuaded to help in view of her extreme circumstances.

I cannot recall if this has been done, but most avenues have been tried over the years.

It might be worth tackling them once more as they may be prepared to solve the problem. G would need to own some land first I suspect.

I just want to say thank you to those very kind people who have been PMing me for details about Gillian. It is so wonderful to see that compassion is alive and well on PR and that we are part of such a caring community. Where else could one find such a wonderful, caring and compassionate group of people?. We are truly a 'family'. A number of you will make Gillian feel cared for this Christmas. Thank you!

Happy Christmas to everyone whether, like me, you are alone or have a family to celebrate with. :balloons:

I think the many of us whose illness has forced us to cope with an isolated existence often feel we are missing out, and can feel very sad about our aloneness this time of year, but there are compensations: we can crash when we need to and don't have to spend the day feigning wellness and then have to face the crash that follows.

We can still celebrate the real meaning of Christmas quietly on our own.

I wish you all a very blessed Christmas!

Love to the very wonderful people who make up PR!

Thank you for the suggestion. :)

I understand from their web site that they only consider existing homes. G has neither land nor building, so I don't think they will help, sadly.

That could be useful, however I was thinking of getting something a bit larger and more permanent installed which could deliver power for internal appliances and heating and such (I have been fortunate enough to access a financial windfall this year). I am in the process of talking with someone in her close support network about getting it done.

I'm not sure how long it will take me to organise all of this and for it actually to be installed though, so intermediary options would still be helpful. However if it was going to be relatively expensive (and therefore not suitable for short-term usage), it might be useful to spend that on something else she needs.

Obviously I am speculating here - I can't speak for GIllian, so I don't know exactly what she needs or how she uses stuff.

Just to let you know that I have received a 'Thank you'' card from Gillian.

As usual, I found her handwriting very tricky to decipher..........(she hasn't had her eyes tested for years, of course, and her glasses are of a very old prescription............it she still has a pair now.), but I could make out that she has been sent 7 DVDs and (I think) 78 batteries, so far. This was dated Chritmas Eve. There was also something that appeared to say that she has received a polar bear..............does that make sense to anyone? :)

She also says she is suffering from hypothermia.

Her short scribbled message which was written in haste as I guess she had an unexpected visitor .........(perhaps the postman him/herself) who offered to take something to the post for her.

Her message ended........Gosh! :) I take it she is very pleased to have heard from you all.

Thank you TeamPR. :)
