    I see some B cells in the Hanson work, @Jonathan Edwards. Does this tie in with anything you're doing?

    I must say that this is all a bit of a weird development after CFSAC in which we were being told that there were few applications to the NIH and that they were pretty rubbish.

    I hope this is something to do with the involvement of the new NIH rep, Vicky Whittemore. She impressed me at that meeting with her genuine goodwill.

    Things seem to be on the boil at the NIH, though - let's hope there's going to be a whole load of grants this year and that these are just the start.

    It was reported recently on PR that the crowdfund came up with $750k so it looks like this study is going ahead after all.

    Bit of an odd combo of topics. I wonder if this is another case of a scientist having a loved one who is sick and deciding to apply their skills in a new area.

    @aimossy Great news!

    Can the MDP pass on our congratulations and best wishes to Drs Hornig and Lipkin and the team at CII?

    This is great news. As for "chump change," ask any biomed lab researcher if they'd like $760,000 from NIH. Lipkin now has $1.5 million, about half from crowdfunding and half from NIH, to do a thorough study, and he'll be using the samples collected during the XMRV search a few years ago. This is a very wise thing to do - leverage this biobank. When Dr. Collins wrote to me a few weeks ago, he mentioned the biobank as a resource and implied it would be used again.

    It's interesting that one of her areas of ME/CFS interest (gut / microbiome) is complementary to Hornig & Lipkin while the other for which she has got the grant (gene expression at baseline and after exercise) is complementary to Klimas.

    Edited to add: yes, vegetables and CFS! That is odd. Hmmmm.

    Whatever anybody does is going to need replicating and extending so it's good that there's some overlap.

    The MDP team plan to have some clearer information out as soon as possible.
