Dr. Nathan Holladay is an Internal Medicine Dr. who has spent time training under Lucinda Bateman in Salt Lake City. He has just recently started his own practice and is AVAILABLE for new patients.

I have been on Dr. Batemans wait list for a long time and was losing hope. This was such a blessing to be able to see Dr. Holladay who can clearly identify and treat ME/CFS.
He was very detailed and spent 3 hours with me on my fist visit going over all of my symptoms. He was trustworthy and honest and really cared about me as a patient which is extremely refreshing.

It was an enormous relief to be finally able to talk to a doctor who understood what I was going through and had the knowledge and tools to help treat me.
I know there are so many other people like me looking for a professional to help educate, treat and guide them along this scary road.

I felt I needed to share this new information with those who are looking for a reliable, educated doctor like I was. His website is Holladaymd.com and phone is 385-251-6028. Good luck to all my fellow warriors out there.

I also just came back from a visit to Dr. Holladay and agree with everything Honeywarrior has said about him. I flew from Santa Fe, NM to SLC via AngelFlight (also recommended, and for trips of less than 1000 miles) and finally got the diagnosis no one in NM was able to provide. We spent 4.5 hours going over my history, two years of labs, doing the NASA 10 minute LEAN test, and talking about the disease model that Dr. Holladay supports. He is generous with his time, extraordinarily compassionate, and up to date on current research.
I have immediately put in effect two of his practical suggestions to help my orthostatic intolerance, and am feeling slightly better already.
For out of state patients: it is important to have a good relationship with a local provider who can follow up with Dr. Holladay's suggestions for prescriptions, medication management, and follow up lab testing. Fortunately, I do, and I hope to return to see Dr. Holladay in 3-6 months to follow up with him directly.

Oh.... my brain... I cannot explain but two modes either autoimmune or exposure to virus that nests in the brain and blossoms much later after infections like chickenpox or herpes. I cannot do his explanations justice--please forgive me for mentioning something I cannot explain or probably even report accurately. He did work with Lucinda Bateman so I imagine he shares some of her ideas and practices.

Can you give some examples of how he treats: drugs used, etc? Glad you found someone helpful.

    Thanks

NASA 10 min Lean test sounds like a New thing for me (could be my brain :) , how is it different than a Tilt Table Test?

    Sounds great.
I'm trying to get an appointment with ME/CFS specialist but it's hard to.

    @Honeywarrior @edwyer I'd appreciate if you'd answer following questions:

    1. Does he use tilt table test? Do you think that NASA 10 min Lean test is enough to diagnose POTS or other form of OI?
    2. Does he check nk cells function and cytokines? Does he prescribe something to regulate the immune system?
    3. What tests did you have?
    4. What is cost of the first appointment?

    Thanks.

    Hi Ewa,
I hope I am presenting him correctly, but I believe Dr. Holladay is conservative in his practice, and I suspect he works within the bounds of what he learned with Dr. Bateman.
1.does not use the tilt table test. I do not know if the Lean test is enough to diagnose POTS. He was careful and moderate in his diagnosis of POTS for me, particularly.
2.We did not do any labwork; he reviewed my previous labs and suggested followup labs with my PCP in NM. I do not know if he would do the labs you mention, but I do know he would be open to a conversation about them. We did not discuss prescribing medication to regulate the immune system (I think--cognitive issues really affect me.) I am sure he would be open to at least discussing that with interested patients.
3.His patient intake forms include assessment tools about self-reported daily function, history, a fibromyalgia assessment self-report, and medication history and self-reported efficacy of meds tried. We did the Lean test in the office. He did other checks on my strength, reflexes, nervous system (I think).
    4. I paid $150 for the initial hour, and less for successive hours. I do not want to say exactly how much I paid, because I imagine each case may be different depending on what exactly is done. It was very affordable for what I received. Dr. Holladay explained to me on the phone that he is conservative and does not do "alternative" treatment. I was most eager to have a diagnosis and a review of medication and suggestion for other medications to try. He did all that I wanted.

Thank you for this reply. I really appreciate it.

$150 per the initial hour is really affordable.

I am happy to hear that he did all that you wanted.

Thanks to the earlier comments, I decided to schedule with Dr. Nathan Holladay in Salt Lake City as I have been unable to get in at the Bateman-Horne Clinic. (I traveled from Alaska.) My experience with Dr. Holladay was very similar to those reported above. I had a very long appointment covering my multiple-decades long history with ME/CFS. Despite the length of my appointment, he never wasted time with repetitive questions, he thoroughly examined and questioned me on all of my intake form responses, completed a very thorough physical exam including the NASA 10-minute lean test (*The NASA 10-minute Lean Test is a variant of a test used by NASA researchers to test for orthostatic intolerance1; it reduces muscular influences on venous return, a major cause of variability in orthostatic testing. Passive stand testing has been validated as an equivalent or superior measure of orthostatic intolerance as compared to head-up Tilt Table tests2,3. https://batemanhornecenter.org/assess-orthostatic-intolerance/). We discussed at length his findings, assessment and possible options. He even took the time to call another specialist to confer with him regarding a specific finding. Due to my long history and significant prior work ups, he did not advocate additional lab testing at this time. He was very willing to call and discuss his findings and recommendations with my GP. He is very contentious and thoughtful about cost. He is a new solo practitioner, so his schedule is fairly open. I highly recommend him and thanks to Honeywarrior and edwyer for the recommendation!
