Hi, I need help with helping my daughter heal her stomach/digestive system/gut. From everything I've been reading on this site and others, all of her depression/anxiety/mood swings, methylation/energy deficit, CFS, and Lyme issues can't be helped until her gut issues are taken care of. She has a tough time eating because her stomach is always hurting her.

She's a vegetarian (she will consume dairy and eggs if needed, but not other animal products). Her diet is pretty clean, but she does at times eat junk/packaged food with her boyfriend. She smokes (cigarettes and pot--which helped with her anxiety/depression).

I'm pretty sure the Lyme and also HPylori are what caused the digestive issues, since before that she seemed to be able to eat without any issues.

Here are her various results, if that is helpful in seeing some of what's going on that may be useful in advising how best to help her heal her gut:

I also ran her numbers through the minor allele program:

    ==================

I'd love to have help with knowing the best steps to help her be as healthy as possible. She's a fantastic girl, filled with creativity, and she deserves to feel as good as possible. I have tried to help her over the years to feel better, she's seen multiple doctors/naturopaths/healers and no one has ever been able to help her. That's why I ordered the 23andme test for her...hoping that if it's a genetic issue that causes her to feel unwell we can learn something and then take steps from there to help her. But, now I am overwhelmed from all I've read and I don't know how to proceed. Any suggestions/advise is greatly appreciated (I, too, suffer the same issues as her...the lyme causing the gut issues for me, but I want to focus on her health first).

    Thanks!

    Love,

    GypsyA

    "HPylor"

I assume she's then already tried proper treatment for that?
    ...........

My gut ended up healing itself (after things like probotics and other things had failed to help). It only got better when I finally worked out all my different food intollerances and then completely avoided those things for a couple of years.

I nowdays can eat most of the things I previously couldnt (my system thou still cant cope with coffee or artifical sweeteners.. nor carbs but that is due to me also having a major issue with high insulin) but its great to be able to have things like dairy again which I couldnt before due to my food intollerence issues with it. (My GERD which I'd been on meds for, turned out to be due to my insulin issue and now completely gone due to having right diet).

The message Im trying to get across here is she may need to find out all her food intollerences, I found that the more I took of things which my body didnt like, the more intollerences it developed (some of these can be subtle and not obvious.. it took me many years to work out all mine)..

Tania, that makes a lot of sense. Do you recall if any supplements were not tolerated ?

I can only talk from personal experience and I'm sorry I don't know anything about the genetic stuff so if what I mention is counter to that - apologies.

I have healed my gut several times with 50ml aloe vera before breakfast for about 1 month. I use one with no additives but they're hard to find.

I have also taken glutamine first thing - mixed with water.

I have made homemade bone broth from organic bones at home - I understand your daughter is a vege so this won't suit her but there is a lot of good info out there on bone broth - check out the GAPS diet. But glutamine may be enough on it's own.

I think smoking makes gut problems worse (?).

I understand the benefits of pot and I see it being beneficial for anxiety but not for depression. I would steer clear of it for that. Also quality of the pot - insecticide residues etc can make it really toxic. Just my thoughts of course. I think pot affects dopamine - again something you'd need to look into.

Stomach issues are made worse by food allergies. Hence, look into the GAPS diet. Even for a vege the principals make sense and may lead to a deeper understanding of current issues. Food allergies cause leaky gut. I have had to eliminate dairy, wheat, gluten, and all grains.

I still get some pain but most of it is cleared up this way.

H pylori needs to be treated. If you want to do it naturally it is possible. I think mastic gum is useful and maybe p73 oregano oil. Although the normal route is antibiotics.

Once gut is healed also look into digestive enzymes as we're often deficient.

Finally - probiotics. Need to take a good quality one every day, especially after any antibiotics.

IF gut issues are a constant problem then I would suggest being on aloe vera forever! It is very soothing. You would also need to eliminate all food allergies permanently - you mention gut issues being caused by Lyme. No junk food at all - I know it sounds really hard.

You say you've seen a number of specialists - unfortunately they don't know your body like you do, you have to try things and then stick to what works for you. It's really tough when your body breaks down but slowly you can make improvements. Good luck :)

Thanks for the responses. After reading even more, I'm now wondering if we should jump into supplements/diet to help work around the gene issues, and that in doing so it will allow her body to naturally fix the gut issues??

We have done and are doing many of the things suggested, it just seems like we are missing some key in truly helping her body heal and behave in a way that promotes health. :-/

    Thanks, again!
