Have any of you struggled with specific neck problems in relation to your CFS or FM? do any of you remember Dr Heffez and Dr Rosner's research on that about 99/00? I went to both of them but the med community got freaked out and told news wrong thing, wallstreet journal published an article saying docs were doing surgery for fms implying they weren't doing it the traditional reasons, however but were NOT doing the surgery unless it was warranted by mainstream criteria in a neuro exam, but that got lost in news and effected regular neurosurgeons to shun fm/cfs people. Woods and Holman followd up on their research and say a portion of people with fm/cfs have this neck issue or chiari.

Dr Cheney had told me he thought probably that wax and wane of a virus would cause head swelling and thus sometimes looks like serious neck problem to neuro, which it is, but he didnt think surgery nec best approach but rather getting rid of inflammation causes.

I am rethinking it again as a neck irritation does coincide with my permanent onset of this disability, its a chicken and egg thing, I dont know if its causal of cfs/fm or comorbid or a result etc But am tired of my neck being so fragile and then having to put up with killer headaches etc if make a wrong move.

If anyone has explored this please share what you found, thanks.

I do have neck issues at times, a chiro worked on my neck.. fixed the constant dizziness which I'd thought had been part of my ME. The worst my ME, the worst the dizziness seemed to be. The neck issue made that dizzy symptom worst. Now I only get dizzy with the POTS. Im so greatful to that chiropractor.

I think its worthwhile for anyone who has dizziness to get their neck checked out. (I also have osteroarthritis in my neck with a bone spur pointing at my neural collumn but it isnt currently impinging on it but Ive been told I will end up needing surgery on it later in life).

Dr. Rosner got shafted in his situation. He never did get his license to practice back, unless they added under supervision. He was just a neck surgeon that was making some observations. He got the one wrong patient.

August, I wondered wht happened to him, thats terrible. I saw him in 02. I have observed that any specialist that tries to legitimize some of the issues of cfs or fm people is vulnerable. did you see him? do you know wht he is doing now?

In 2005 after two years of unbelievable neck pain I had a cervical disectomy with with fusion. It launched my undiagnosed ME CFS into orbit. I was diagnosed with Fibro in 2008 and then in 2010 after being fired by my GP I had the XMRV test and I was positive. I then found a real CFS Doctor and additionally tested positive for EBV, CMV and ten other chronic sub infections.

I don't know what to think of XMRV but it doesn't matter. It gave me the courage to get into treatment. It's odd isn't it that I have anti-bodies to lab contaminant? I would advise anyone with neck pain not to get surgery unless absolutely necessary. The swelling of the brain makes perfect sense to me. Some days are good and some days are bad....pain wise.
