I have just had a PCR test and come back positive for Borrelia.

My dr has given me a detailed abx protocol to follow.

Before I launch into that game plan I would like to know if any one here can give me the details of KDM's protocol for treating this?

Or any other protocol for that matter...as I would like to determine if my dr ( Australian based) is using an up to date program.

BTW, I am happy to share my protocol if any one wants to know the detail

    many thanks

    Hi suzanne,

I will begin kdm protocol mid september: IV ABX 3/4 days a week ceftriaxone during 6 or 12 weeks ( depending on the results) . After that i will take other ABX but no more IV... It will take a year or maybe more.
In the mean time, I take clarithromycin every day during a month, then go back to see KDM... Mid july.

Be carefull because when you are infected with borrelia, you can also infected other people...like your husband, boyfriend, etc...
    My husband is infected...

    Have a mice day

    Hi Suzanne,

There are many protocols, and they are most often tailored to the individual patient. At least that's the hope.

Dr. Burrascano's Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease pdf has a lot of good information about the different antibiotics, pros and cons, when they should be used, etc. It's worth a read!

    Good luck with your treatment!

Oh, and yes - I'd love to know your protocol, too. I'm starting down the same path. Waiting for the slowly grinding wheels of the medical community to turn...

    Hi,

There are more and more people with ME and Lyme. I'd like to have a special place on phoenix where we can share our experience, etc... Instead of having infos everywhere... What do you think?

    Have a nice day

I would really like this too, there are lots of us and plenty to discuss. I also think it will help raise awareness in the MECFS community.

I recently tested positive for Borrelia by kdm. I was allready diagnosed with Bartonella about a year ago.
    I haven't got his letter here with me, and i'm still ordering things (Biofim defense was out of stock at iherb...), so i should read again what doses to take in what amounts, but this is what i recall he prescribed;

    - Clarithromycin 500 mg 1/d
    - Biofilm defense
    - Berberine 200 mg (2/d?)
    - Sodium bicarbonate 500 mg 2/d between meals
    - PQQ

Kina Mark I also haven't really found a forum about lyme that matches the level of this one, a special lyme section here would be awesome.

Hi has anyone had a diagnosis and treatment from Prof KDM for Lymes disease? Was the diagnosis based on symptoms or tests or both? and Have you been treated, how is it going etc?

Quite a few here have been diagnosed and are under treatment with Prof. De Meirleir for Lyme and co-infections--I'd guess some of them will respond when they see your post. I am in the process--I had a PCR in the "grey zone" and the sample has been sent for genetic sequencing.

He diagnoses Borrelia, Bartonella and other co-infections using about 3 types of lab test plus history and symptoms.

I was first tested for Borrelia by KDM 2.5yrs ago and the result was negative. I started his treatment including GcMAF and a year ago he re-tested me and the result was now positive. He explained that there were three reasons why I was now positive (i) I had been under an incredible amount of stress in the previous year (son with a brain tumor; husband with a subdural haematoma; and very ill myself yet having to function); stress exacerbates the condition; (ii) I had been on GcMAF for 1.5yrs and this brings the sprochetes out of hiding; (iii) the testing he was using was now more sensitive. I tested positive by PCR and this was confirmed by DNA sequencing.

In my own country I managed to get a local infectious diseases specialist to treat me. Last June I was admitted into hospital and was administered IV Ceftriaxone 2mg daily (which of course was recommended by KDM). I was discharged after a few days and continued this treatment daily for four weeks on an out-patient basis. Within hours of the first dose I developed a fever and must have slept for about two days. It was very tough treatment with a lot of pain, particularly head pain in specific locations. By the end of the four weeks I was herxing and had "burnt tongue" sensation. Unfortunately my local doctor wouldn't treat any further and when the four weeks were up he just said that was the end of his treatment :(

On KDM's advice, I gave my body a break for a few weeks and in September I started 3 different oral abx: doxycycline, plaquenil and azithromycin. In January I was told to drop the plaquenil. In April I was told to exchange the doxycycline for minocycline. I found the minocycline very difficult to tolerate and by the 1st week of June, under KDM's advice, I stopped all abx. So I guess I was on abx for almost 11 months in total. I am still on a maintenance dose of GcMAF (2nano every 2 weeks) as well as other medications.

KDM wants me to detox from the abx for a couple of months, to then return to Brussels in September for re-testing. I was last in Brussels in February. My CD57 has improved considerably but other markers show that I have high levels of internal inflammation.

It has been a rough ride. I would say that there has been some overall improvement but I am still not well. I just wonder what the September testing will show and what the next stage will be.

Did he prescribe any biofilm destroying things for you?

I intitially tested negative for Borrelia and positive for Bartonella, about 1.5 year ago.
This month i tested positive for Borrelia on LTT.

Yes, I was on Nattokinase and now I'm on Berberine. What biofilm defense are you on and what is PQQ? Who is treating you?

Would be very helpful if we could share information.

    Thanks!

I just started Kirkman's biofilm defense - is that the one you mean? I remember taking PQQ before, a while back, don't remember the results.

I tested positive for Bartonella earlier this year, and a band 41 on the Borrelia blot (Spirochete flagella) and he thinks I have both as my inflammation and immune markers, history and clinical symptoms suggest it. He is going to run the infectolabs LTT test for Borrelia when I go see him next in August.
Seems that it is quite common for people to test negative at some point and positive at another.

It's also KDM who's treating me. It's indeed Kirkman Biofilm Defense he prescribed. PQQ is a vitamin like substance which supports the mitochondria.

I'm taking Berberine and Zyflamend for the inflammation. Only started this combination a couple of weeks ago. I'm still waiting......

Thanks. Two years since my son's 9hr surgery and a few weeks ago his UK surgeon said that since it hasn't grown back, it is now unlikely to!! Yay!!!! He's doing well. My husband is still struggling but is much better too. Phew!!
