DOES ANYONE KNOW AN ME-FRIENDLY GP IN THE WELSH BORDERS/FOREST OF DEAN (Glos) AREA?

This person wants to remain anonymous:

'Help Please! GP urgently needed in Monmouthshire/Herefordshire/Forest of Dean area, who understands that ME/CFS is physical and is prepared to respond and act on the advice of ME/CFS consultant specialist. Sufferer is young adult with severe ME/CFS.
    Thank you.'

If you don't want to discuss this on PR, please email meconnect@meassociation.org.uk and we'll pass the message on.

@charles shepherd, do you know if this patient already has a "ME/CFS consultant specialist" and is looking for a sympathetic GP, or is it hoped that they will be referred to one by the new GP?

I have lived on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean for 15 years. So far, I must have changed GP at least 6 times because they have refused to acknowledge that ME was anything more than a mental health issue.

My current GP finally 'gets' it - although he didn't when we first met, but I won him over ;). I expect that he is situated too far east for this patient to travel, judging by the area requested.

Unfortunately, lovely as my GP is, he has been unable to help with my ME, other than to sign my bi-annual sickness certificate. He would if he could, but he does not consider that there is anywhere useful to refer me to within the NHS system.

All we have here is the local CFS clinic, which is useless for anyone who is house or bedbound from ME.

I hope, for this patient's sake, that they already have a good private specialist on board.

    Thanks for this info

Yes, the person concerned has been seen in hospital by a specialist with considerable expertise in ME/CFS and I have also spoken to the parents. What they now need is a good local GP in that area when they come home from hospital.

I'm sure many of us would love to know who this myalgic encephalomyelitis specialist is, as most in the UK simply parrot the White/Wessely/Crawley harmful psychobabble.

@charles shepherd, I'm pleased to hear that this patient is currently in good hands. I wish them well in sourcing a suitable GP.

Like @Min, I would also be keen to find out who this specialist is and why my GP does not appear to be aware of their considerable expertise with ME. He would willingly refer me to anyone, NHS or private, if he felt that it would be worthwhile.

Seconding wanting to know who this M.E. specialist is because I'm not holding out too much hope for Bristol. Plus it's nice to know there are other people on here from the same part of the world as I am
