Attached is a link about food that can interfere with cancer growth. I'm glad I saw this because the idea seemed weird to me before. But now it all makes sense.

Cancer has the ability to trigger the body to grow new blood vessels to feed the cancer. The blood vessels are unlike normal blood vessels. There are foods (and anti-cancer drugs) that inhibit this. The presenter also mentioned that some of these foods can work synergistically.

Interestingly, the one natural product that scored the highest was soy extract. I went to buy some and saw a warning about not taking this kind of extract if one is at risk for cancers that feed on estrogen. So I guess, like drugs, there are risks with natural products.

Thanks for posting this, Andrew. Now I understand better my obsession with green tea, berries, and chocolate!
I like that they are developing topical as well as oral applications of these anti-angiogenesis substances.
It's funny how slow medical science has been to catch up to the importance of food and nutrition!

    Food as medicine!

Topical application!! Yes, that was interesting....wonder if there is an application for skin cancer?

Medical science has been soooo slow in the food and nutrition department, formal education needs to catch up all, teaching this in schools. Food as medicine priceless.

Here's a chart from the movie. Remember, less is better. Less angiogenesis means fewer blood vessels feeding the cancer.

Also, care needs to be taken in understanding this chart. We don't know what type of cancer each test was run on. For example, I looked up soy extract and read that it can increase risk for breast cancer. So please be careful.

One of the most anti-angiogenesis nutrients is inositol hexaphosphate(IP6), which is more normally called Phytic Acid and which is found in fruit and vegetables in small amounts and especially in grains and rice bran.

Reducing angiogenesis is just one way it helps fight cancer, recent research has shown other ways in which it helps fight cancer.

A recent study was its effect on Lung cancer reported by NBC News.

(this also gives some good sources where you can obtain IP6)

It also has a lot of other good things going for it like helping to reduce excessive iron and calcium build up, as well as heavy metal levels, which can cause cancer and heart disease.

Eating healthy and well balanced diet is the best way to keep yourself healthy and also keep you away from so many health problems so as cancer too.The rich, dark colors of blueberries, Brazilian acai berries, raspberries and cranberries come from phytochemicals that protect against numerous types of cancer. Most recently, researchers at the University of Florida found that the active ingredient in acai berries destroyed cancer cells when tested in cell cultures. And blueberries and muscadine grapes contain compounds that recent research shows cause cancer cells in the liver to self-destruct. In studies particularly important to women, cranberries have recently been discovered to be an important weapon in the fight against deadly ovarian cancer. Studies reported at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society found that ovarian cancer cells that were becoming resistant to platinum chemotherapy – the standard of care for ovarian cancer – became six times more sensitive when exposed to a compound in cranberries.
