I basically can't bend down to grab anything off the floor or a low shelf. I can't describe exactly what the trouble is when I do, being out of breath and just feeling awful, so I try to avoid reaching for anything low if I can help it. It feels related to my other symptoms I associate with OI, like getting really out of breath with stairs. Does anyone else have this bending down problem and is this somehow related to POTS/OI?

Yes, I have this with POTS. It is better than it was since the POTS is better, but I am very careful. I pick things up with a grabber or my toes sometimes! Or I sit to bend over.

Yes, it seems to associated with POTS/OI. Try squatting. This works for me. A lot of people squat to avoid a faint but it is also good for picking stuff off the floor.

    Hi, Ocean,

I try to keep my head up all the time. Like Sushi and Sally say, it's best to squat or sit to do things down low like cleaning at floor level or picking things up. Even weeding with my head down can leave me reeling and feeling exhausted in a very short time. I have a stool in the bathroom and sit to put on socks and shoes. Climbing stairs is also very challenging. I try to climb slowly and pause for breath when I need to or even use ramps if available to go up the same height.

    cheers, Lynne

I also have problems bending down. I usually don't pick things off the floor until just before bedtime, since doing so can sort of crash my energy. Sometimes I do squat...I should do that more often.

Thanks everyone, good to know it's POTS-related. I do squat down but when at its worst, even looking down from a sitting position causes the problem. I hope to get some improvement from POTS at some point. It's a lot worse than it sounds on paper!

That is for sure Ocean. The Autonomic Nervous system completely breaks. Finding the reason for it is good, then you can work on it. Not always easy.
