This article below re Ethoxyquin in foodstuffs, animal feeds, petfood etc is probably very important for those affected by ME/CFS(causes?) and especially regarding what they eat. As you’ll discover, even supposedly “organic foods” are probably tainted with this dangerous “Pesticide”.It has secretly found its way into the Food Industry. It can slip into foods without having to be labelled and is unregulated. Please read below and also check it out and add to this. Like OPs(malathion etc)it is neurotoxic and it can crossover the BBB. I think all MPs/Health Authorities/Minister of Agriculture etc should be contacted so that it is completely moved out of our foods: and out of pet foods/animal feed too.

The blood–brain barrier (BBB) is a highly selective permeability barrier that separates the circulating blood from the brain extracellular fluid (BECF) in the central nervous system (CNS). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood–brain_barrier There are currently active investigations into treatments for a compromised blood–brain barrier(from Wikipedia)

The Royal Society of Chemistry..... “The blood-brain barrier protects the brain from unwanted chemicals in the blood”

Ethoxyquin.... “Ethoxyquin is a quinoline-based antioxidant used as a food preservative (E324) and a pesticide (under commercial names such as "Stop-Scald"). It is commonly used as a preservative in pet foods to prevent the rancidification of fats.”... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethoxyquin

[url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethoxyquin

http://www.epa.gov/oppsrrd1/REDs/factsheets/0003fact.pdf

Ethoxyquin is also regulated by the Food

and Drug Administration for its use as a preservative in animal feed, dehydrated

crops and sorghum, and as a antioxidant for the preservation of color in the

production of chili powder, paprika, and ground chili.

Ethoxyquin........ Is a Known Carcinogen...http://ottawavalleydogwhisperer.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/fish-fish-meal-and-ethoxyquin-danger-do.html

It causes:

  • Cancer of the kidneys;
  • Significantly increases the chance of stomach tumours, and;
  • Bladder cancer, it has also been shown to cause;
  • Allergic reactions;
  • Behaviour problems;
  • Deformity in puppies;
  • Infertility;
  • Organ failure;
  • Skin problems.

Fish Farming(especially that of farmed salmon)....on (Russia Today/English service..rt.com) today and the past few days there have been documentaries re Fish farming....film “ Filet Oh! Fish.”An investigation from Nicolas Daniel...Journalist:Louis de Barbeyrac..There are grave concerns raised there about the use of Ethoxyquin(E324) and fish farming in general(industry not properly regulated).Kurt Oddekalv(Director/Founder of Green Warriors/Bergen/Norway)is an Environmentalist and an Activist.http://www.nmf.no/default.aspx?pageId=332........re Green Warriors Norway. Kurt Oddekalv built his own environmental group(29yrs?) and has established Green Warriors of Norway, for almost twenty years ago. GW engages in active politicalinfluence, public education and information, fieldwork and direct actions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Warriors_of_Norway

Kurt has policed this Industry(salmon farming) for more than 10 years and raises many concerns.Kurt says Norwegian salmon is the most polluted food in the whole world.He showed how farmed salmon flesh is too fatty(14.5%to 34%)and how it breaks very easily.Wild salmon is much different.The fat content is 5% to 7% and the flesh is firm.The farmed fish contain all types of pollutants especially that of Ethoxyquin.Now research at University of Bergen (by Jerome Ruzzin/Biologist)bears that out. In the film he displays his results of various foods he tested for chemical pollutants....salmon ,by a long way was the worst!He doesn’t eat this fish anymore.Ruzzin says it is at least 5x more polluted than other foodstuffs...others put that figure higher!He says everyone must avoid exposure to these pollutants.The scientist did an experiment with rats(farm fed salmon/ western type food/lab control food).Eating farmed salmon caused diabetes and obesity(fatty tissue) in the rats.Pesticides on the farms( in his opinion) is not so bad a problem as the dried pellet feed(contain pollutants, especially ethoxyquin).

From his research Ruzzin discovered (1)Obesity is connected to all the pollutants we encounter in the environment(UK Government take note!) (2)Pellet feed(dried?)makes the salmon flesh most toxic.(worse than pesticides/other pollutants....also very bad).Re the latter problem, Ruzzin advised the reporter to ask the Fishmeal factory people(Denmark)why that was so.In the factory(Denmark) fish oil and protein powder are made.How safe are Fish oils and Protein powders?Heavy metals build up in fatty fish.Some salmon too, big fish(fatty tissue full of chemicals)/Tuna too/other fish from Baltic(polluted due to dioxins from the Swedish pulp/paper industry pollutants.Fish off Finland are radioactive(Chernobyl).All of these fish are used in this factory.The fish is cooked in large ovens...oil and protein result.Besides the ethoxyquin already in the salmon(E used to treat sea lice parasite)Ethoxyquin is also added to stabilise the meal/powder.The manager of the factory didn’t know why the Ethoxyquin was being added!Ethoxyquin slips(secretly)into this process.It is a pesticide and should not be used in this way(unregulated).Monsanto introduced Ethoxyquin in the 1950s as a pesticide ,used in Rubber industry/pear industry too(scald?).In a fraud Lab(Food)in Switzerland ,they test various foodstuffs.50mcgs of E allowed in some foodstuffs but they have found levels up to 1000mcgs!(unregulated).The EFSA(European Food standards Authority)has never evaluated Ethoxyquin for neurotoxicity etc....no daily intake level due to lack of studies(they say).However, Victoria Bohne(Scientist/Researcher)spent 6 years plus researching Ethoxyquin at NIFES/Norway. (see RT film)(http://noralumni.no/japan/organization/nifes/).Her work was never published as she lost her job.At first she said that she left voluntarily but ,off camera she mentioned being forced out. DrClaudette Bethune(2006) also was forced out of her job when she mentioned concerns re toxins in salmon industry(?)The Authorities wanted her to falsify her results but she refused.Victoria Bohne found more disturbing things re Ethoxyquin/Salmon Industry, as the years passed.Most disturbing of all perhaps was that she found out that Ethoxyquin could crossover the BBB(blood brain barrier).That is a serious health issue.The Authorities wanted her to change her results but she refused(fraud/corruption?).Seemingly, the Minister of Fisheries was Lisbeth Berg Hansen(a very powerful figure....according to Kurt/activist)and as it turned out she “had a finger in every pie!”1988-1992 she worked for EWOS...world leader in Fishmeal.1992-1996 Political Advisor to Minister of fisheries.2008, A fish farmer herself.She is involved in many boards re food/fishing industry.Her family are also involved in the salmon industry(big way).JMJ Invest Company(re Financing/Fishing Industry).The Minister has 88.9% stake in that Company. Kurt/activist/GW said she/her friends were like the Mafia and were corrupt.(rotten).The reporter got 5 mins interview with the Fisheries Minister(Hansen) at the Fair in Brussels.However, after his question on toxins/research money in the salmon industry in Norway(Minister had stopped it?)the Minister pretended she knew nothing about it and didn’t answer the question.Her minder ended the interview!

Fish Pulp(Boulogne sur mer Factory)...This is another very worrying product(same film)...The fish waste..cod/other fish skeletons/heads etc are sold off(fish waste).They are washed and put through machines and eventually come out as fish pulp. This is frozen and sold to factories that make pies etc for human consumption and for pet foods. This fish waste is also very polluted. I’m sure too, that farmed salmon waste is sold on and processed in the same way. It will be full of pesticides(ethoxyquin) and other chemical pollutants. It probably ends up in salmon pies/fish cakes etc. The pulp blocks are much cheaper than salmon filets.This Industry too goes under the radar.In the film they secretly filmed the gunge(fish pulp) coming out of a machine(terrible looking!)It is no wonder that this country/others too have a Diabetic/Obesity problem/cancer too with such practices going on in the Food industry.It is time the Public stopped it! The Politicians/big business won’t!

Some UsefulLinks re above:

Pet Foods.....Ethoxyquin is not listed among the ingredients, even if the fish meal used does contain ethoxyquin. This is because the preservative is put on the fish before being processed and turned into pet food, so the pet food company does not have to label it on their packaging. The manufacturers are usually vague, unsure, or try to hide that fact that it is in their food. (see)http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120624153347AAuUhkR

Further re Salmon Fish Farming(Norway)...European Parliament
Subject: Health risk from farmed Norwegian salmon

Parliamentary questions

21 November 2013

Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 117
Gilles Pargneaux (S&D)

Farmed Norwegian salmon are fed on wild fish pellets manufactured in Denmark which contain ethoxyquin, a pesticide and antioxidant created in the 1950s by the Monsanto company.

Apparently, this product, which is found in salmon that are eaten, crosses the blood-brain barrier and is in the long term extremely dangerous for human health.

Is the Commission aware of this health risk and, if so, what steps will it take to remedy this serious problem as quickly as possible? http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do?pubRef=-//EP//TEXT+WQ+E-2013-013218+0+DOC+XML+V0//EN.
