I live in New Mexico and a lot of rodents here have the plague too. It is just unfortunately fairly common in the Southwest and occasionally a human being does catch it from a rodent--in NM usually a prairie dog.

There was one in Boise too.

Do squirrels get CFS? Someone should do a study. Spend billions to find out.

Cure would be to put them on a treadmill and exercise them to health

I recall some years ago, some poor sod was out camping in the USA, and got infected, probably by a flea from a small mammal, yes the plague is endemic to parts of the USA.
the person got septicaemic plague, that is, when it goes into the blood stream, rather than the lymph nodes (normal), or lungs (pneumonic), fastest killing variety, luckily they survived but lost fingers toes etc as result :/

hence suitable insect repellent is a good idea and watching where your camp site is set up.

@alkt. Someone recently posted a study about tired cows. Squirrels are next.

@heapsreal. Or talk to the squirrels about pacing their nut gathering.

I'm quite sure that Wessely et al would be very interested in why squirrels play with their nuts, and how that makes them lethargic.
Freud would approve of the research into the slippery slope of kernel abuse....

    ahem :p

This conversation for some reason - another sleep-deprived night? - reminds me of the board game Clue.

The Crime? The Kernel Of Truth found dead. (apologies to Colonel Mustard)

I'm ready to solve, if I may:

It was White in the Study with a Poison pen.

    Double ahem...:p
