If anyone EVER thought their votes didn't matter, they should look at these numbers. New Jersey is only 6 votes ahead of 100th place. Dropping 2 spots means the loss of $25,000. What a terrible shame that would be
Yes. It looks likely that whatever happens some group is going to be close to the cut-off point when this contest ends - it will either have just made it or just miss the cut.

I've just added in a line to try to highlight this.

My guess is Chase will do an update at midnight EST. I should be asleep so if anyone else wants to post it, feel free.

I wonder if Chase will pull some entries. That would move some of our groups up to safety.

Chase Community Giving Contest rife with claims of voting fraud

Interesting articles. It's Chase's contest but I really hope that they just eliminate competitors who use robo-voting or other such methods rather than just docking them points. It may be unfair to those who legitimately vote for a charity but unless Chase kicks these groups out, other groups who use robovoting will continue to enter the contest reasoning that

1)a strong showing at some points, even if false, may encourage their legitimate voters to vote
2) even if docked points, they will still earn $25,000 if they fall but remain within the top 100 list

I thank everyone who has voted and also the groups who worked together to get people and organizations to vote as a cohesive bloc. This type of cooperation means we were able to disseminate the message about the contest quicker.

Some thoughts for future vote-getting: exploit international groups and FM groups more. Other potential groups could include people with POTS/ NMH but not CFS since CFS research also covers this group; IBS; etc. We need to continue to think creatively.

Votes with 4-8 minutes to go

As previously state, 6 hours before the end, 100th was at: 1299
Changes over 12 hour voting period: +174. So if it went up by the same rate it would be 1299+87=1386
People on the West coast of the US might not have got that much voting in in the last 6 hours, so perhaps this estimate is reasonable.

A couple of our orgs yesterday.. it wasnt allowing one to vote for them. My boyfriend we tried in two different places to get his vote in (we tried using the library computers and 8? hrs later, he tried from his home) for the Rocky Mountain group and the WI one and it just wouldnt let one vote for those two orgs.

Those two orgs must of lost a lot of votes with things not working for at least that long for those esp this happening last day.

Competition has ended. Looks like three of our orgs have won $25,000 each

International Assoc for CFS/ME finished at 45.
CFSKNOWLEDGE centre finished at 94
Mass. CFIDS/ME and FM assoc. at 98 (we were so lucky to stay in). Best remember not to think we are so safe next year with our top ranking orgs.
....

We would of done far better if all who had voted had focused on all the other of our orgs already in the top 100. Need to work better together.

I suggest next year for things like enteroviral foundation.. as thou that is run by 2 ME/CFS researchers... as it is in a lot of other illnesses too.. we could of drummed up a lot of support for that thou other illness forums. (I'd thought of doing that but just wasnt capable of doing more then I did).

(our orgs which dropped out were about 200 votes down so wouldnt even have a chance if some other orgs got taken out due to cheating).

Thanks for highlighting it.

Yes, you can't really feel safe in this contest. It was interesting as around 70 charities seemed to be only a few hundred votes above the cut off point with a couple/few days to go. It seemed a bit of an unnatural spread which makes me think a lot of the groups were going by their position in the leaderboard rather than the raw number of votes they had e.g. 200 above the cut-off might have had a group in 50th or 60th and make them think they were fairly safe and so they didn't push hard for more votes at that stage. But 200 wasn't a safe number of votes really to be above the cut-off point.

I think the community did fairly well in terms of spreading out the votes.

I think the cut-off in the PANDORA contest was in the 1500s and this time it wasn't far off it (although there were only 100 charities this time).

Given the enthusiasm for some with the enteroviral theory (and I'm very interested in the angle myself), I was disappointed it wasn't pushed for more.

It should be noted that overall, the community did well -- if all three charities get $25,000 -- that means $75,000 total for ME/CFS. Three times what we got compared to the initial run by PANDORA.

Of course we can do better and we should see each round as learning more about how the contest works and how to get more votes in the future. Let's continue to set our aims high.

Chase's press release: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/ch...in-community-giving-program-2011-11-23-145700 (mostly a long list of winning names, and stuff about Chase, but we have 3 winners in the left column of the other 95 winners)

Well done, everyone.

Some good strategy tips have been mentioned to keep in mind for next time.

A couple of our orgs yesterday.. it wasnt allowing one to vote for them. Something like this happened to one of my sisters, also. She wasn't able to vote for several of the orgs. She said some of the links didn't work, but she could get to some of the pages by clicking where a friend had voted (the friend was able to vote all our orgs). But she couldn't vote all the orgs.

We tried to vote both ways.. via those two links.. and also via going to the site and putting in the orgs name, getting it up and then trying to vote like that. Those two orgs votes still didnt work (but the other ME/CFS orgs we did voting before and after did with no probs).

I hope chase was aware that issues like this were going on so it dont happen next year.

congratulations to the winners! and thanks to those here spearheading the voting effort! your strategizing, stomping the pavement and cheerleading are indespensible!

hopefully there will be a next time and our orgs that didn't win will get some money due to past winners being ineligible to run again (less competition).
