ME/CFS: A disease at war with itself
We can all agree that ME/CFS is a nasty disease, particularly in its severe form, but there are abundant nasty diseases in the world. What is unique and particularly confounding about our disease is that so much controversy surrounds it, and not only surrounds it, but invades it too.

    AABB:
    September 21st 2012
Received this email from the AABB:
AABB prepared a press statement on 9/18. In addition, the original position paper has been updated and sent to the Board of Directors. The conclusion is that blood collectors should revert to whatever policies they were using prior to the publication of the XMRV/MLV papers. They may still defer donors with a history of CFS if they wish - which would be for the health of the donor, not risk to the recipient.

    NHS BLOOD:

    UK NHS Blood Helpline:
All ME patients in the UK can still not donate blood.
All those who have a past history of ME/CFS and are now recovered are also banned from donating blood.

RE NHS - Makes sense, doesn't it? there is still no idea of what is wrong with us.

I would not like to receive blood from someone sick for decades.

Nice, cannot wait to donate now. Our community needs to be larger! My workplace does blood donations rather often.

I think the NHS is quite conservative about blood donations. They say no one with a serious illness. They also say no one who has travelled to a malaria area within the last 6 months.

They have enough donors and so can be careful. Since we don't know what causes ME it is imposible to assess the risk.
