A good friend of mine with an interest in biological science recently came to stay for a couple of days, and brought with him his copy of "Bioinformatics for Dummies", and we mined the book for relevant links that may be of interest to the PR scientists and especially to those who have been playing with BLAST...here's what we came up with...

Buy Bioinformatics For Dummies on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bioinformat...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1292774900&sr=1-1

Read Bioinformatics For Dummies via Google Books:
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...m=8&sqi=2&ved=0CD8Q6AEwBw#v=onepage&q&f=false

"Cheat Sheet": all the main bioinformatics links from the book:

EsPASy Proteomics Server - Analysis of Protein Sequences and Structures:
http://expasy.org/

RCSB Protein Data Bank Search - Loads of different search facilities re: biological macromolecular structures:

Hopefully something there of use to someone...not sure I know where to start, myself, but there's a part of me that would love to be messing about with BLAST and looking into the detail of the published primer sequences and XMRV sequences and trying to crunch some numbers...if I didn't have so many other jobs on my list...
