As Soon As I Drift Off To Sleep I Suddenly Wake Up Again

    A while back, I noticed as soon as I drift off to sleep I suddenly wake up again. Lately when I started using Diatomaceous Earth for parasite cleanse it is happening again.

    Anyone know why this is? Is it the mercury in the brain? Parasites? These sleep issues have been really difficult for me and my deep sleep/circadian rhythm has been messed up for quite some time.

    Sleep specialist was no help, and I am currently doing detox for parasites/mercury, etc.

    It could be leaky gut causing depletion of magnesium, causing muscle twitching (restless legs) which will wake you up. The timing of just getting to sleep and then being knocked awake is typical, at least for me.

    A short term fix is to take magnesium. Any form except magnesium oxide is fine. Mag oxide, while cheap, doesn't absorb well. So magnesium taurate, glycinate, citrate, etc.

    The parasites are one thing that can cause leaky gut, so you would think that killing parasites would be helpful. Maybe there is something about the DE that depletes magnesium.

    My research has shown that a 4R gut rebuilding program seems to be the best method for fixing leaky gut.

    I have this pattern; I wake up at least once or twice during the first hour of "sleep." I already take magnesium glycinate at bedtime for RLS, and caledonia makes me wonder if taking it earlier would fix this piece of my insomnia.

    Edit: I just figured out that I don't have RLS. I have "periodic limb movement disorder." It only happens at night.

    I was taking mag glycinate throughout the day and a double amount before bedtime. For some reason more seems to leak out at night.

    So the dosing was:
    breakfast - 1 tsp
    lunch - 1tsp
    supper - 1 tsp
    bedtime - 3tsp

    That worked well for me for many years, until my leaky gut got worse. (I did some stool testing, and I think I picked up a parasite on top of the candida I already had.)

    Anyway, methylation creates a higher need for magesium. So another thing you can try, which is what I'm doing, is avoid all methylation supplements and even folates in food, such as leafy greens. This, of course, should only be temporary to help you get some sleep while you're working on leaky gut.

    I wake up soon after I fall asleep but don't think it's muscle twitching. Had a sleep study a few years back and no sign of restless legs or anything. No clue what it is.

    I had this the very first time I took melatonin. Hasn't happened since. Have you tried sleeping aids like Ambien? Maybe an Ambien + slow release melatonin combo could help..

    I have tried melatonin before ... but it didn't do anything for me.

    I will go to the walk in clinic tomorrow to pick up a prescription for getting rid of the parasites. Which one do you recommend for the parasites that crawl under the skin? I also have pinworms and maybe probably hookworms.

    I heard these all work for parasites but I would like the one that kills the crawling under the skin ones and is the most mild since I've had sensitive stomach for a while due to leaky gut (which has improved now) :

    Mebendazole
    Praziquantel
    Albedazole

    The DE may be stirring things up...could be a parasite issue.

    My guess is perhaps also adrenal issues...maybe your cortisol is too high at night? That's what I'm dealing with...too high (but still within "normal" range) at night, and then way too low in the morning. So the doc has me on Seriphos, which helps to lower it at night, which then over some months is supposed to help increase it in the morning.

    I take one about 2-3 hours before bed, then another about 1/2 hour before, along with 1-2 mgs of melatonin. Also agree that magnesium might also help.

    Thanks, yeah I know it is the DE as I feel them wiggling around my body shortly after taking it. I hope my sleep will improve soon. I didn't feel as much wiggling after today's dose. Maybe most of them died yesterday?

    I seem to recall that killing parasites can release significant amounts of mercury and other heavy metals, similar to what happens when you start dissolving biofilms. Perhaps ingesting bentonite clay and having it in your body at all times to absorb/adsorb mercury could be helpful. --- I myself ingest it daily for this reason, and to neutralize some of the toxic radiation so prevalent in our environment these days.

    hmmm .. it seems to be happening again but I am not doing parasite killing. Actually I recall it happened before when I was just doing regular detox. The naturopath thought it was due to the mercury.

    Is the Seriphos helping? It made my sleep worse so my doctor switched me to phophatidylserine. My cortisol has been way too high at night for this whole year. Is there anything else that can be done about it?

    It is helping, but I think a little less so, as I've been on it for 4-5 months now. I've read elsewhere that one should take a week or two break after about 3 months…however my doc didn't agree with that. She said it's okay to take without a break. Also using 1-2 milligrams of melatonin.

    Just a note my sleep has improved lately. Took more vitamins than usual, especially Calcium. I think I was depleted in calcium because as soon as I took it I slept well for the first time in a while. I think all those coffee enemas must have depleted my calcium and other minerals. I also don't drink milk so I wish I knew the warning signs sooner!
