Has anyone used alpha stim for insomnia, put these electrodes on your ears and it suppose to stimulate your brain into making serotonin, dopamine etc, they call it cranial electrotherapy stimulation. also used for depression and anxiety. Cost around $600, so if it does work for insomnia it would pay for itself in sleeping tablets, lol. http://www.pacificmedistim.com.au/as-scs.html

    advice appreciated,

    cheers!

IDK - The CFS clinic I go to tried one on me, connected to the ears but I didn"t feel anything which surprised them and I only had it once. I notice the one you posted said SOME hear a buzzing. It would be nice to hear of others responses and specific to the machines. The one they tried on me was micro current. So confusing...

My husband and I rented an Alpha-Stim for six months and used it religiously. We got zip, zero, nada results and spent a lot of money. Thank God we didn't buy the machine and could send it back.

If you are going to try it, be aware that the electrode stickers work best, but cost a fortune, since they do not last long, esp. on hairy men! You may also need someone to help you put electrode stickers on places you can't reach. If you use the wands, you can't do anything else during a treatment, since it requires both hands and you may need someone else to sit there and hold it on hard to reach places. If you are busy, this is a major problem.

    Hi Heapsreal,

I took the benzodiazapine Clonazepam for many years to help me with my sleep and excessive neuronal firing. I then discovered the alpha-stim about 2 years ago, which has provided most of the benefits of taking benzodiazapines without the side effects.

One of the benefits was improved sleep quality, but the most helpful benefits was the ability to use it several times a day to keep my neurological system in a calmer mode. In you're interested, I posted a bit about my experiences on this thread.

    Hi Glen,

Interestingly, my alpha-stim sometimes doesn't "kick in" right away, and I won't feel the gentle micro-current for about 2-3 minutes. I've wondered why that is, and whether I might have a minor malfunction of my device. I've never gotten around to calling the company about it, primarily because I don't like to think of not having it available to me for a few days. I wanted to mention this, as it's possible you may have had the same experience when you tried it but couldn't feel anything.

Klutzo, I think you make a good point about being able to send it back. A person can do a "rent to buy" program, so that you can try it fairly extensively before making a purchase. I went that route, and also was able to get a discount for buying a refurbished one. I bought mine through the following company, and was very pleased with their customer support.

    Allevia Health, Inc.

Wayne is yours the kind that you just put on the ears - the one they put on me wasn't like the one that klutzo mentiined and having to put electrode stickers in places? I wonder if there are various kinds and maybe some are better

    Tried this also

I tried the Alpa-Stim for about 1 month last fall during a Major Fibro flare up. I had Major insomnia and pain.

I do not recall it being very helpful for either, but I was in very bad condition! I rented it for $100 dollars a month and my Drs office also offered to take off the rental fees of the purchase. The model I borrowed was older, know they have better set up to hold the pads onto the clips, so you would not need to replace the pads as often.

You might want to check out a BEMER or something to that effect, but that cost thousands of dollars!
