    Sudden alcohol intolerance causing flushing

I have two working copies of the ALDH2 gene (rs671 G;G) and have never experienced any kind of alcohol flush. For two weeks I tried pycnogenol (pine bark extract) and ended up with a severe acne breakout the likes of which I've never seen since I was a teenager. I've been off it for a week and...

    Mysterious health "event"

Thyroid profile is normal. I take a methylated B vitamin complex and SpectraCell micronutrient analysis shows those are all where they should be. No idea about the lupus connection, which is something I'm curious about. The immuno lab work suggests I don't have it, but inconclusive.

    Mysterious health "event"

I'm a 37 year old male. Three years ago I had something happen that I've only been able to call the "event". It's happened once each year since and still remains a mystery. So far no doctors or specialists I've seen have been able it diagnose it, but at least one friend with Lupus says it...

    Low sulfur/thiol protein powders?

Are there any protein powders that are low in sulfur based amino acids, don't contain aspartame or splenda, and taste decent? I workout a lot and it is very difficult for me to get enough protein from my meals so I supplement with Optimum Nutrition Natural Whey. I'd like to replace that with...

    Skin heals very slowly

Doesn't matter which part of my body it is on. Same effect. Also, I generally don't scar at all. When I finally heal, I heal very cleanly. Through process of elimination I figured this out, but it really should have been pretty obvious: alcohol I was having a glass of wine or two every night...

    Skin heals very slowly

Of which I have none of those as culprits....including the long voyages at sea. :-/

    Skin heals very slowly

My zinc is optimal (along with my other minerals). No idea about spleen function. How would I test that?

    Skin heals very slowly

I actually take Vitamin C every day and my diet is also rich in it. I had my micro-nutrients tested and my C levels are highly optimized. I don't think it is a collagen issue either. My face looks almost the same as it did nearly 20 years ago. Most people mistake me for a high schooler (which...

    Skin heals very slowly

My skin heals very slowly. If I get significant enough skin damage, I have to put something like Bionect on it or it won't heal and the skin will deteriorate down to the sub-dermal layers in some cases. This has started getting worse and worse over the past couple of years and I can't figure out...

Getting neurotransmitters where they belong with COMT

That is what I am looking at, is their combined influence physiologically. Isolated, I would not expect there to be much of an impact. Currently this is all I have to go on, so I am researching solutions based on these. Although, recently changing my diet to drastically reduce all sulphur...

Getting neurotransmitters where they belong with COMT

I am +/+ COMT V158M/H62H complicated with +/+ MAO-A R297R and +/- VDR Taq/Bsm. Most of my life I've had most of the neurological symptoms (some severe) that these genes produce in combination. Changing my diet, supplementation and mindfulness meditation have helped immensely but it still seems...

Need help with methylation and detox SNP analysis

I'm a super light sleeper and only do 4.5 to 6 hours a night (timed for sleep cycles), so I have to take a 25 min siesta at midday to keep going. I really don't think when I do sleep that it is quality...especially this past month. I do take the magnesium at bedtime, but it doesn't seem to help...

Need help with methylation and detox SNP analysis

B6 was deficient at the time of the test. My B-complex I'm now taking contains B6 in the forms of 50 mg pyridoxine HCL and 50 mg P5P. I also had the following deficiencies: B1, biotin, glutathione, selenium, vitamin E The following were borderline deficiencies: B12, folate, pantothenate...

Need help with methylation and detox SNP analysis

I have added my methylation profile from version 1 of my MTHFRSupport Variant Report in case that will be helpful to anyone trying to cross-correlate gene activity. I also included the affected hetero/homo rsID #s when that was the only differentiating factor in the report. Does anyone know a...

Need help with methylation and detox SNP analysis

I have not yet investigated Yasko's diet recommendations so I can't comment on that. All I know is that the highly unhealthy "All American" style diet I was on was making me feel like crap so I did paleo just to see what happened after I got the Celiac diagnosis. Perhaps modifying to account for...

Need help with methylation and detox SNP analysis

I haven't noticed any real benefit from taking more methylfolate. Just yesterday I made the decision to order some B12 in the form of 2,000 mcg of Hydroxocobalamin and 3,000 mcg of Adenosylcobalamin. Both as lozenges. Will try each independently over next 2 weeks to see the effects and report back.

Need help with methylation and detox SNP analysis

You can solve the primary problem (phytic acid) by soaking and/or sprouting them so you keep more of the beneficial minerals found therein. I go one further and grind them then boil to make a cream for use in my cauliflower mash (recipe found in 4 Hour Chef). I'm pretty skeptical about the...

Need help with methylation and detox SNP analysis

I'm a 30 year old male and recently had my 23andMe tests done. I then ran them through Genetic Genie (since 23andMe isn't really useful for much else at the moment). Here are my results and I'd be very happy to get any input on what I am doing (or not doing) with regards to treatment. BTW...
