Funding update for Invest in ME Research on B-cells/Rituximab -

Good news.

I didn't see a date on that article - it says

In order to continue B-cell study research in ME, and as part of the overall research portfolio that Invest in ME has with UCL, we are committing ourselves to fund a new PhD studentship at UCL beginning next year.

Does this mean a new PhD starting in 2017?

If so this is great. I think this is one key area for research funding - the more PhDs we can fund the better. It potentially means a new lifelong researcher on board.

Anyone know how much it costs to fund a PhD ?

Edited to add that I checked and that reference to a new PhD was made in 2014.
They have been funding two PhDs - Daniel Vipond and Fane Mensah.

They also announced in August 2016 -

"IiME have agreed to fund an additional student at UCL to assist with the project "B cell function in patients with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS): Investigations of metabolic function during B cell maturation and differentiation". The aim is to investigate potential differences in B cell maturation, differentiation and metabolism between patients with ME/CFS and healthy controls. The charity will underpin the extra work with a grant of £9000 to cover the student who will work until early 2017 assisting existing PhD student Fane Mensah and Dr Jo Cambridge. The team hope to identify whether potential differences are due to alterations in signalling or metabolism in B cells from ME/CFS patients and the additional student resource will hopefully accelerate Fane's project." -

Their 5 year Plan is on this page - http://future.cofeforme.eu/ce-thecentreforme.shtml
It includes PhDs, medical students and postdocs.

Forgot to post this update to the Invest in ME Research B-cell/rituximab fund (incidentally the PhD student working on the B-cell research, Fane Mensah, is at IACFS and received a travel grant from Solve ME/CFS). Hopefully, this link to the Invest in ME Research Centre of Excellence news page works (otherwise click on 'news' tab). http://www.cofeforme.eu/

From the Let's Do It For ME website;

A very generous friend of our very own super supporter and severe ME sufferer, Geoff Allen, has kindly offered to match the first £1500.00 donated to the following justgiving page .

Geoff himself is a severe sufferer yet is generous with his own donations and limited energy in support of Invest in ME Research (and the 25% group) as many of you who have carried out events in support of IiME will already know.

So let’s take full advantage of this generous offer

You can also donate via text
Text GMMO78 (£1 to £10) to 70070
E.g. GMMO78 £5

Don’t forget the space after 78 and to add gift aid if you are a U.K. tax payer.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

So if you want to help fund biomedical research in the UK (Invest in ME) here is a great chance to increase the impact your donation will make.

Feeling smug that I'm doing my bit, no matter how small that might actually be.View attachment 19241

Thanks so much @AndyPR

And everyone else that is helping and donating to OMF. Each donation goes so far to helping us crack this. Unlimited permissions to feel smug!!

We are having a webinar soon with Prof Davis himself in February, and he will be able to update you all on the amazing progress that has been made.

And today I made a donation to the Centre for Infection and Immunity in support of Lipkin and Hornig's Monster study, in honour of a friend's birthday, who also does a lot of advocacy work unheralded behind the scenes. I'm not sure there is much left in any of my piggy banks now though - I'm sure my lottery numbers will come up tonight though...

Those lottery's. I almost won 90 mil, part of that would've payed for so much research. But alas, i was left with a tenner.
