I can take 10mg of methylfolate and feel fine, but if I takee even 500mcg of methyl b12 I get insomnia and start breaking out... Why can't I seem to tolerate it?

I also don't do well with magnesium either.

I have read hydro or adeno b12 could be used if methyl isn't tolerated well, but how do I know which one is better to take?

Try Hyrdoxy-B12, it will probably give you less or no side effects and your body should be able to convert it to both methyl and adeno forms.

As a side note. Starting with 500mcg of methyl-B12 could be too high a dose.

I had the same problem, with too much anxiety from methyl-B12 when I started. I had to start with 200-250mcg and gradually increase over several months.

Sometimes all it takes is going low and slow with a bit of patience.

In any case, try the Hydroxy. Maybe you can switch to the methyl form later.

good luck

@renerdrat I have just started taking hydroxoB12 at 156mcg once a week. My specialist thought I would tolerate hydroxoB12 better than methylB12.

No methylfolate as yet. I plan to introduce it later. Doing it slow and low. It's an experiment.

Have you read Caledonia's documents on methylation? You might find them helpful. She talks about some people starting at the amount of methylB12 that fits on the end of a toothpick!

Best wishes, Andy
