Hi Guys

Among my other bugs, I have Blastocytosis, and am about to try and eliminate it again. Can any feedback on the ten day triple therapy cocktail, a la the place in Sidney? I believe it uses an abx combo of nitazoxonide, diloxanide furote, and secnidoazole.

thanks

Sian

Hi Sian,

Around 5/6 years ago(?)I had a phone consultation with that Sydney Clinic re Blastocystis hominis and Dientamoeba fragilis that I had at that time(probably had them for years!).I found all the information required from badbugs...an Australian site.I have just googled it but it doesn't seem to be there now.I was sent various combinations(by email)..and I got some of the medication from Mexico and the rest in UK.In the following months I lost 33 lbs in weight.I have had terrible diarrhoea for years!!!...was also on T3 medication at that time too.The toxins(die off)in my system made me very ill...weak/dizzy...As far as I recall ,the first parasitic treatment didn't clear the parasites..Tested again at (Parascope labs?)Leeds..At that time I believe I was on a heavy dose of Flagyl(?)...Finally,before the end of that year I took another Australian combo(to use if all else failed)...I haven't retested for them since but they could still be present.I have had two years(almost)of pulsed antibiotics/other drugs for Rickettsia infections since then....so they may have helped clear up the parasites too.At one stage I only ate brown(organic) rice for 10days...and I used raw rice grains(Zen practice?)first thing each day to rid my body of the parasites...Don't know how much it helped...I'll try and locate those combos for you...but may have changed since then.....

I took the triple drug cocktail for Blastocystis hominis, as I have IBS, and I understand that IBS may be caused by pathogenic strains of Blasto. Ref: 1

I did not take the stool test for Blastocystis hominis, because (a) it can be very hard to detect, and (b) most Blasto strains are the non-pathogenic variety, so even if you test positive for Blasto, this does not automatically mean you have a pathogenic strain. Only the pathogenic strain is linked to IBS.

There was some slow improvement in my IBS symptoms after completing the triple drug cocktail.

I took the the first line treatment, given to me by Jackie at the Badbugs website, comprising: secnidazole, diloxanide furoate, and bactrim DS.

A similar treatment comprises: secnidazole, furazolidone, and nitazoxanide.

Though my greatest improvement in IBS symptoms was achieved by removing chloramines from my drinking water.

See this post for a comprehensive set of Blasto eradication protocols, some of which have a 100% success rate.

Hi Sian,

I had antibiotic-resistant blasto many years ago and managed to get rid of it after two courses of the triple combo you mention (the first course didn't work) after seeing Dr Borody in Sydney. The antibiotics weren't particularly pleasant, however my IBS symptoms (including 4-5 bouts of diarrhoea per day) got considerably better after getting rid of the blasto.

thanks guys, that's really helpful. I'm going to give it a try. I dont expect to eradicate - their lifecycle is too long - but if I could knock the critters back for a year or so, I think it would be worth it. I am allergic to bactrim, so would need to use the protocol that doesnt use that. I understand the implant method is better - was thinking about trying to use them via enema.
Oh joy...

Hip - what do you filter your water with? I've just got a multipure carbon block filter. And do you do anything about water ph?

that's great Abha. I didnt know they did phone consults. I'm in Manchester, UK, so will investigate. Am also on T3. Do you mind me asking - who tested you for rickettsia, and have you found anyone good in the the UK for this stuff?

Hi Sian,

The first treatment I took in 2007 was as follows......

Nitazoxinide (Alina)500mg/2x daily,Senidazole(Secnidal) 400mg/3x daily,Furazolidone(Furoxone)100mg 3x daily..All combined for 10 days...for combined Df/Bh infections they add doxycline...50mg/2x daily plus stemetil(for nausea)
Treatments(prescribed)are only given if one is positive...

If the above fails then I was advised (by someone at Badbugs?) to use...Septrin DS(dosage standardised),Tetracycline hydrochloride 500mg 3x daily,Nitazoxanide 500mg 2x daily...all combined for 10 days...(i used this secondly)..

OR
Iodoquinol 630mg 3x daily,Humatin/Paromomycin 500mg/3x daily,Septrin DS,...all for 10 days...but Iod and Humatin may be difficult to obtain in UK.

That was back in 2007 so this Protocol has probably changed....

Hi Sian,

Dr Wright(tested for Rickettsia the first time ...tested at Dr Jadin's Lab...I had talked to him about it in Manchester/Bolton)After that i saw Dr Jadin in Namur, in Belgium and during 2012 I visited her in Johannesburg. There i had lots of tests done and I found out that I had two strains of Rickettsia(conorii and mooseri)plus other infections. The London Tropical Diseases Hospital don't see Rickettsia infections as a long term problem.I have that in writing from a specialist there.Patients have died from such infections in Europe(France/Greece?/Portugal/Africa/Asia too).Dr Jadin's father a Professor who worked in Central/East Africa was an expert in this field. Her book" A disease called fatigue"...not a reference book as such but is worth reading re this subject. You may have to purchase it from S.Africa or from Dr Jadin herself. She has plenty of copies(updated?)in her Clinic.Patients from all over the world travel to see her.Like all such specialists she has her fans...and those who feel the treatment did nothing for them.In my case it was good to hear from someone who recognised this problem and who was able to explain her views on it.
A very specialised test is used to detect the Rickettsia and there are few places(if any)that do that type of test in the world.

I believe "Hixxy" on the forum here did the triple cocktail for blasto. He's also from Oz. He said he went through hell for a month but was actually free of all ME/CFS symptoms for a few weeks following the therapy. Unfortunately he's very unwell now and doesn't get online much.

Sadly, I missed Dr Wright before the GMC put the frighteners on him. I had heard the London school was useless. Same old same old eh? Pah!

When you say the London school, are you talking about The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, which has a lab that specializes in Blastocystis hominis and Dientamoeba fragilis? What did you hear that was bad about them?

Hi Hip,
Re Blasto and Dientamoba fr...Back in the 80s my parasites weren't picked up there.I talked about having parasites and it was mentioned in the report from the consultant that I still had mental problems(had op contact prior to that that no one detected/rickettsia/parasites too/terrible diarrhoea). In more recent years I tried to get an appointment there again. That was turned down (probably the consultant found the earlier report and thought it was all in my mind.Private tests that I have had since show that I have had these problems for years and enterovirus infection too)...advised to go to infectious diseases hospital in Belfast(doesn't exist?)...and i had similar problems with the Liverpool Tropical diseases place. From the TV progs re these Hospitals they seem to be more interested in monied patients(not NHS ones) from overseas(South Africans etc)and celeb status! On the badbugs site(?) I read in the past that other patients who had Blasto and Dient.F had similar patients with the London Hospital..Maybe it is better now...but I know for a fact(written reply)that they don't believe Rickettsia cause long term problems(not Dr Jadin's experience in RSA)

I got infected with B. Hominis in 2007. I got the parassite in Parentini, Amazzonia. High fever, big diarrea. I've cured it completely in this way: 2 g of Secnodazol every 3 weeks for 3 times and a special tea for a month: The tea was composed by 3 ingredients: Black American walnut, DE-toxified Assenzio (just few drops....It is very strong and toxic) and Carnation flower (in Italian: Chiodi di Garofano). You need a big cup of it (It taste horrible) every day at 05:00 PM for one month. This tea will detach the multiple layer spores from your colon. You will notice them in your stool. Black and little..., slowly they will decrease in number and than disappear. Result? Completely cured. !!!!

Hi Vince,
Great to hear that you got rid of the BH.Did you make the tea yourself or did you buy it?If it is the latter is it available online?Thanks...

Hi, I mixed the ingredient myself, I bought the Black Am. Walnut and the Carnation flower in a herbal pharmacy (kind of common in Italy) and the De-toxified assenzio in a normal pharmacy. Have a good one :) !!

I did the triple therapy in 2006, repeated a variant in 2007 and did a different regimen in 2009, all on advice of CDD Sydney. Blastocystus was not eradicated. They suggested I try a new treatment they had developed for resistant strains so I did that in 2012. This involved direct application of a triple cocktail of antibiotics into the bowel at colonoscopy, plus a second application the next day via enema (the drugs were too masty to take systemically). That did eradicate the blastocystus.

This certainly made a difference to my IBS and I did feel a bit better for a while, then I had a very severe relapse of my CFS which I am now slowly emerging from.

What do I think of it all now? Well it is far too simplistic to think that eradicating a parasite like blastocystus can be a solution. Maybe it is a good thing to do but only in the context of rebuilding the whole terrain of the gut.

With best wishes
Alice
