If your having bad reactions to SAMe then you will also have the similar reactions to methionine.
This means the gut is not generating extra histamine and you should not take any methyl donors.
The only other thing I know which could be at the root of your problems is Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth(SIBO). This is more common than is thought and especially with SHMT++ mutations.
What sort of treatment have you had for your gut problems, has anybody tested for SIBO, its a breath test over about 3 hours.

I definitely have gut issues and my holistic doctor has worked hard at trying to get it functioning properly with not much success. My gut being what he believes as the main issue is one of the reasons why he is giving me amino acids thru IV to try to rebuild intestinal lining.
I have tried a lot of the 4 r gut program. I eat extremely healthy diet. No processed foods.
I have never been tested for SIBO. He did do stool analysis though which didn't have any huge issues but some minor ones.
Would SIBO show up on that?
I am on digestive enzymes but can't tolerate things like pineapple or mango in it. I can't tolerate betaine HCl. It makes my heart beat real fast even on small dose. I've tried probiotics and I can't tolerate very much or I get allergic reaction to it. Have found one I can tolerate (hmf capsules) but if I take more than 4 billion I get extremely bloated... I wait like 5 weeks at same dose and I can't increase it... Never gets less bloated. I can never take higher amounts.
What sort of gut/bowel problems do you have, color of stools, frequency of bowel movements,IBS,etc?
I'm nauseous everyday. Stool is light brown color. I poop everyday.
What sort of treatment have you had for gut problems?
Oops... Answered this higher up. I even have taken things like licorice root... I'm telling you my doc has gone the whole 9 yards...
Could SIBO be what's causing that? Seems like all the different things I've done would help fix the SIBO...
SIBO can cause a load of problems because it leads to Leaky Gut Syndrome(LGS), whereby this bacteria generated in the gut can spread throughout the body, which causes increased immune activation, lowering of adrenal function,as well as poor mitochondrial function and hormonal problems, among other symptoms.
I haven't had a test for leaky gut but my doc assumes I do hence part of his reasoning for treating me with amino acid IVs.
Taking MB12 and Methylfolate could have interacted with this bacteria and caused an increase in its circulation via the leaky gut wall, some of which found its way into your prostate causing your bacterial infection.
Very interesting. Wouldn't I have a fever if it was bacterial infection?
SIBO also causes major malabsorption of nutrients including Vitamin B12, major minerals and amino acids, which is why you have lost so much weight. SIBO bacteria can also generate their own folic acid, which totally disrupts disrupts the methylation cycle.
I definitely agree that I have malabsorption bc my food hardly gives me any energy. (Praying these amino acids will start to help) interesting about SIBO producing folic acid. My doc is also adding in lower starting dose of b vitamins into my amino acid bag. He's wanting to titrate up if I can handle it.
IMO the way forward is to get a gut programme started under a local Functional Medicine doctor or Naturopath, as outlined in the 4R Gut Rebuilding programme.
I keep trying to work on my gut to not much avail...
Can SIBO be found in stool analysis?
Can SIBO be treated without antibiotics?
I saw online that flagyl could be used to treat SIBO. Is this true? My doc had me on flagyl for 2 weeks for a different reason. Would that have treated it of I had it?
My doc has even treated me with nyastatin for what he assumed was yeast overgrowth but hadn't tested.... Even then I couldn't take the whole dose...
Thx for your thoughts and info.
A side question I have is ever since I first got cfs over 3 years ago I can only tolerate about 1 gram of salt a day. If I take more my heart rate and bp jump too high. But I still struggle with OI... Most people with CFS eat tons of salt but I can't. Any idea why?
