bursting veins in the hands

Does anyone get the bursting veins in the hands ? It stings like a bee sting when it happens.

It happened a lot in my severe years. I only get it every now and then now.

I can't really remember getting these when I was well. I found it worrying when I was getting them a lot.

I think I mentioned it to the doctor, but I can't remember the answer, I vaguely think he said that it might be something to do with the immune system. I just can't remember if it was him I told or not.

I would be interested to know if others have had this symptom with their ME.

I started getting this when I started treatment for Bartonella. KDM told me that it's because Bartonella infects the lining of the blood vessels, the endothenial cells. Could you have Bartonella?

The frustrating thing for me snowathelete is that I really don't know what they tested me for in the early years. I had so many tests done. And an ME specialist also did tests, "to rule out other things" she said. But I have written Bartonella down and I will check with my GP about it when I go back next time. Thanks for that x

They usually test for 3 strains of Bartonella--only--and tests are showing that ME patients are likely to have other strains. So a standard test for Bartonella might not catch it. You might do better having a vet test you as they test for more strains!

Best,

Anyone else get the veins bursting in the hands ?

It happened a lot in the first 3 years after onset. I wonder what is different with me. It does not seem like many others experienced this.

@rosie26 When you say bursting veins in the hands, do you mean they literally burst open and bleed, or they feel like they are bursting with pain? I just wanted to make sure I was understanding correctly. What does your current doctor think?

I have not had this but had unexplained bruising on my calves for a very long time and no one could explain beyond that it was connected to EBV and my immune system. I began taking freeze dried Acai berry (pills) per my ND and own research and the bruises are completely gone now. But I have no idea if this would relate to your issue and would want you to check with your doctor.

They seemed to break under the skin and it would sting for a while and then there would be a bluish tender blotch there for a while. I don't really get them now. Only out of the blue and few and far between. It just happened a lot in the early years. It was just another thing that concerned me. I haven't heard off many others getting it, so I just wonder about it. Thanks Ginger.

@rosie26 I misunderstood and thought you were having that issue now! Glad it resolved itself and I guess it is another one of those mystery symptoms that we will never know the answer to...
