Free on-line university courses

Universities around the world are opening their books. Virtually means anyone who wants to can study any course....... so one lecturer could be teaching 50,000 people.

This is phenomenal news for us as it is a great way for research to advance quickly.

And from Lisa thanks-
University of Queensland to offer free online courses

and Di says MIT also offers free online courses.

One example of how wonderful the Internet is for US. It is our big chance in my opinion Especially when combined with the human genome project and advances in genetics and epigenetics.
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that we may get a cure

also a great way for any of us who want to do free study without leaving home too

Sally has highly recommended looking at Coursera.org. It has units from universities from all around the world and its free.

I've completed a class through Udacity (Intro to Programming in Python), just started another on web development), and finished most of a Human-Computer Interaction design class on coursera.org. I love love love Udacity, their classes are focused and really great. I'm hoping to build up programming skills and leverage those into a web-centered career path so I can work from home (when I'm better enough to actually work!)

Thanks for posting this Allyson. I am taking a Physiology course from Coursera. Even though it is just getting started and it is a struggle I have managed to learn some helpful things.

I read not only the forums but also medical articles. As someone who does not have a science background I have found it very difficult to understand much of what I read. I get the general gist of it, in a vague sort of way, but wanted a better understanding. I figured even if I only learned a couple things it would be worth the effort.

After only 1 week, I have learned some new terms and I now clearly understand what a "negative feedback loop" is. So I'm very happy. If anyone else is having trouble understanding the basics, give it a try. You are allowed to start late and can drop out at anytime with one click of the mouse!

If anyone does take this and has trouble understanding the material, I recommend going to www.professorfink.com and watching the youtube lecture of his covering the same material. This guy really explains things in an understandable way!
