This Phase II clinical trial known by the acronym "FAST" (Fibromyalgia Antiviral Suppression Therapy) is for Fibromyalgia patients, and some qualifying ME/CFS patients. The study uses a combination of a NSAID medication and an antiviral medication (there are 3 types of each that work) to suppress herpes simplex virus (HSV-1), the proposed cause of Fibromyalgia and perhaps ME/CFS. Patients interested in getting in the clinical trial should have their doctors contact Dr. Pridgen directly at (tsasurgery (at) gmail.com). Here is a list of the 12 sites conducting the study.

1. The study locations where subjects are being recruited. Currently there are 12 active sites, all in the US.
2. That the study drug is investigational and there is a placebo arm. Patients need to be aware that they may not receive the investigational drug.
3. Important Exclusion Criteria such as history of rheumatologic diseases, bipolar disease, OCD, severe anxiety, schizophrenia, systemic infection, severe cardiac disease, chronic steroid usage, and chronic opioid usage will not be eligible.

I have emailed the contact person as my dad lives about fifteen minutes away from Lafayette, IN.

I was supposed to be in a study about an hour away from me and one here in town, but didn't make it to either one of them due to my FM. This is an important consideration when doing any study on chronic illness.

I am amazed that there are TWO testing locations in Indiana. I do not have much pain and do not want to take an NSAID.

Little Bluestem, fyi, the NSAID is not taken for pain. it is taken for its antiviral properties.

I did not realize that NSAIDs had antiviral properties. I am still not sure that I would want to take one regularly because of the side effects. I have been 'allergic' to aspirin in the past.

hi all, the info on the fact that SOME nsaids have antiviral properties is found in the first two articles that i posted:

dr. pridgen, in the articles above, states that the two meds he is using in his protocol (an antiviral and a NSAIDS -- which he does not name) are both being used for their antiviral properties. however, not all NSAIDS have antiviral properties, i think.

pridgen has confirmed with my doctor, who he talked with, that the NSAID is used for its antiviral properties. there are to be about 140 patients in the study, i hear. so this is no "slouch" study! this is a "real deal" study, based on many previous patients getting better on this protocol. or so i hear.

Me either. Lots of natural things have antiviral properties -- lysine, lithium, zinc, olive leaf extract, etc.

I would think adding an NSAID would just complicate the picture -- who's to say if the new drugs are the cause for possible relief, vs. the temporary pain relief from the NSAID? Besides, NSAIDS deplete sulfate, or as some say "restrict the use of sulfates", which are critical to good health.
