Exposure to Herpes Simplex 1 &2, CMV, Chlamydia Pneumoniae, & H-pylori is associated with poorer cognitive performance in a study of 1625 people in Manhattan by Columbia University researchers.

Blood was tested for "infectious burden," the degree of exposure to five common viruses & bacteria. The reason for the link to cognition is not known but authors note chronic infection contributes to inflammation and these pathogens are neurotoxic directly affecting the nerves.
