FWIW, my arthritis started acting up and I was afraid the AHCC was pushing me into an auto-immune condition. So I've stopped a couple weeks ago. Arthritis is a little better in the shoulders, but worse in the ankle.

Anyway, I don't know what to do next. All this guessing is no fun.

Thoughts?

Andrew~ I'm new to the immunomodulator supplements. However, after doing some reading, I am going to add in Beta glucan. That and transfer factor helped a friend of mine. Beta glucans do not seem to cause auto-immune issues. Here is some info I've gathered on them and transfer factors:

Here is some info on the immune supplement (using mushrooms) that I was thinking of adding in later. However, I would need to do some more research on it:

Immune Assist:

Hope we all find something that helps us.

Thoughts?

Andrew,
I don't understand what you are trying to achieve?

I tried beta glucans, if you go for it pick something that works. There's a lot of rubbish out there. The best for me was Beta 1,3D.
There's a study comparing effectiveness of different brands but I can't find it right now.

found it, the comparative study on glucans, here it is
http://hopeforcancer.com/research/JANA2008.pdf
The brand I mentioned uses Glucan 300 that came top in the study. I tried other two brands could not notice any effect.
This one made me feel fluey and tired, I guess that was the result of activating my immune response but after about three weeks or so I stopped, as I started another treatment and didn't want to mix things up. I don't think I used them long enough to produce tangible results.

I've got some beta glucans on the way, I'll report back when I have tried it for a while. Given my symptom remission when I catch an upper respiratory virus, I think immune balance/autoimmunity plays a big part in my illness.

Hi; I am still pulsing (i.e. I stop for a few days every now and then) AHCC at about 3 gr per day, and seem to be improving very slowly and with drop backs from time to time, but am also following most of Terry Wahls' diet, and using a UV lamp (Sperbi) to get my Vit D up higher, so as usual don't know what is doing what--it would be so nice to have a doc who understood this stuff! Till then...
Best, Chris

I'm more clear on what's happening now. My biggest improvement is reduced orthostatic intolerance. I am at the level now where I can walk back and forth between rooms several times in a row. I sometimes stand and look at my mail, instead of immediately getting into a reclined position. One problem though. My orthosttic intolerance used to be so unpleasant it kept me from overdoing things. Now I am having mini crashes because I walk around my place too much. I'm going to have to learn to balance this.

It's a long time ago now - almost 2 years! I seem to remember that for a week or so my pain improved a lot, but then it came back. I think I took it for about 2 months, but then gave up. I didn't get any worse on it though.
