My head feels spacey, cotton ballish, kind of dizzy and I'm super heavy and sleepy....but awake. I've tried rest, multi vitamin, potassium, eating well. Nothing seems to be helping.

Anyone have some remedies that work for them?

If it's electrolytes Coconut Water works for me or a pinch of himalyan sea-salt in water. Electrolytes generally won't make me feel sleepy though, just dizzy and weak like I'm going to puke or faint.

How long have you felt like this? If you have any other health concerns like high blood pressure or low, heart issues etc. definitely give the doc a call. Sometimes you can just call up and have a friendly chat and say, "hey, should I come in and be seen for this?" Anyway, that's what I do ;-P

Just a few days. I've had it before, but not sure what it is. No heart issues that I'm aware of. It could be a sinus thing, but not sure. I do need to see my doc soon though, just in general

That sounds like how I felt when I was detoxing mercury (and other things I think) - I got very spacey (actually felt like I was high), tired, digestion was off. I had detox reactions a lot, various things would trigger detoxing (e.g., apple cider vinegar). Anything that had "cleansing" properties generally set off detoxing. It happened over and over again and I believe it was "retoxing" - the toxins were being mobilized out of my tissues by some substance, but just kept circulating and then redeposited in my body. After several years of this, the detoxing stopped after I started taking glycine, glutamine and inositol, all of which are used in Phase II liver detoxification. I had to go very slow with these substances, especially glycine which caused a huge detox reaction, but eventually I came to tolerate them and I don't get that detox reaction any more.

It was my chiropractor who does muscle testing who first found my problems with toxins. I don't think any doctor (hardly any doctor) would have picked up on this, though more doctors seem to be aware of detox issues, particularly integrative or functional medicine doctors.

Here's an article about phase II liver detoxification which I discovered after I had stopped detoxing, and was pleasantly surprised to read that glycine, glutamine and inositol were all used in phase II liver detoxing: https://www.diagnose-me.com/treatment/liver-detoxification-phase-II-support.php

Have you ever been tested for mercury or other heavy metals?

Have you ever been tested for mercury or other heavy metals?

Thanks Mary,

I was tested like 15 years ago for heavy metals. I was medium in a few. I'll have to look again. I've had my silver amalgam fillings taken out thank goodness. Is there a reliable home test?

And do you take particular forms of those supplements? I'm trying figure out what to take.

Hi @shannonl - I had my amalgam fillings out in 1997 but was still having detox problems until 2 or 3 years ago.

Member @caledonia swears by Andy Cutler's protocol and testing recommendations - see http://forums.phoenixrising.me/index.php?entries/caledonias-methylation-and-mercury-links.1744/

scroll down about 2/3 of the way and she has a lot of info there about Cutler's protocol and testing. I tried his protocol off and on for several months and did not notice any results, plus it was difficult to do. But Caledonia can answer any questions you may have about Andy Cutler and his protocol and recommended testing.

I stumbled across glycine, glutamine and inositol by accident. I was taking the glycine and inositol for sleep, when I had a huge reaction to glycine - I was very spacey, got lost going to my sister's house, and then read about glycine and found it played a role in detoxing. It's a long story but I kept taking these supplements in very small doses that I could tolerate, gradually building up. I think it was about after 6 months that I realized my detox symptoms had stopped.

Around the same time that my detoxing stopped I had a mercury tri test done by Quicksilver Scientific (https://www.quicksilverscientific.com/testing/clinical-metals-testing), which tested mercury levels as well as my body's ability to excrete it, and I did really well on it, with very little or no mercury (I can't remember) and also scoring high on my ability to excrete it. Quicksilver has their own protocol for getting rid of mercury but I didn't need it.

These are the 2 mercury testing and protocols I know about. I can't tell you which one is better.

To do the Quicksilver test, you have to go through a practitioner and pay their fee, you can't buy from Quicksilver directly. I was very fortunate in that I found Allen Bonilla, a chiropractor in Los Angeles, who was very knowledgeable and also very kind. We did everything via email and phone, and he never charged me a consultation fee though I offered to pay one. Here's a link where he talks about why he uses Quiksilver: http://www.allenbonilla.com/mercury-toxicity-test-use/

The testing still wasn't cheap (I think around $350) but I'm glad I had it done.

Glycine and glutamine are amino acids - you can buy them individually, and inositol is one of the B vitamins which you can also buy individually. However - we are all really different. e.g., I was able to take glutamine a few years ago with no problem. I can't take it any more because now it contributes to insomnia for me, though it didn't at the time. It was just a crap shoot so to speak, an experiment. I'm used to experimenting on myself. One of the main reasons I think I'm able to do this is because of muscle testing. I've had it done dozens of times by competent chiropractors and they have been able to pick up when I've been toxic and also have been able to advise what supplements may be helpful. e.g., when I reacted so strongly to the glycine, my initial reaction was that it might be bad for me. However, muscle testing indicated it was good for me, but in very small doses, which I was able to very gradually increase over time. So I can't suggest you do what I did, without the support of a knowledgeable person who can help you deal with reactions you may have. whatever you do, it's important to start low and go slow.

Dealing with mercury and heavy metals in general is not simple or easy.

Figuring out supplements is worth it.

Also Valcyte tremendously helped my brain fog and cognitive dysfunction. Have you been tested for chronic viruses, like Epstein Barr and many others?

No I haven't. I still haven't gotten doctors to think that I'm not just tired or depressed. I'm not sure to ask to be tested for that. I'm still trying to find a CFS doc in my area. Which is not easy. SIgh. But I can see the need for it. I had mono as a teenager but not sure if it's still active

CFS doctors are hard to find.

You might try finding a good functional medicine or naturopathic doctor who might be able to help you sort out what's going on. Depending on where you live, they may be a bit easier to find.

I had mono 40 years ago. It reactivated and has caused autoimmunity as well. Many if us have multiple herpes and other viral infections, as well as enteroviruses and certain bacterial infections, so getting tested for these is worth a try.

@shannonl i totally get this. I finally have an appt with a specialist who helps with ME but it has taken almost a year to get to see him. My appt is in march and I'm super nervous. I've been written off 6 ways to Sunday by the various medical Drs i have seen. It seems they just want to give me anti depressants which i don't want to take. I keep telling them in not depressed. Ugh.

I know my sister spoke to a ME group to confirm that the guy I'm going to see is legit. I'm not sure what the name of the group is. Maybe me action. Org? Someone here will probably know. Or i can hunt it down in my email if you need it...

It's hard to say what is causing this. Is there anything that has changed in the past few days?

My suggestion would be to keep a symptom journal of foods, supplements, medications - whenever you start or stop something, how much you're taking, how you're feeling. Any toxin exposures. Visit to the dentist? Broken CFL bulb? Mold exposure? A lot of time around wifi?

Then you can look back at it over time and see if you can detect any patterns.

This could be very helpful for your doctor too (especially a functional medicine type doctor).

The good news is if it went away by itself in the past, it probably will again.

This sort of symptom is something I would visit my doctor about to get fully checked up. He can run the tests and if he come up with nothing then I would try my own remedies.
