Fit for work? Oh do feck off!!
Below is a photograph on an actual letter, the first of 5 pages of a disabled and incapacitated person’s claimant commitment who has been found ‘fit for work’ and has put placed in the ESA WRAG (work-related activity group) – or possibly its Universal Credit equivalent.

The ‘job coach’ – a title given to a jobcentre worker – has decided that this person can and indeed must contract to look for work in order to receive ESA which is paid at the same amount as job seekers allowance (JSA) of £73.10 per week.

The job coach has decided this person can work 1 hour per week and for no more than 12 (twelve) minutes each day and with a 45 minute travel time to and from each 12 minute maximum spell of work each day.

This scrounger is FIT FOR WORK according to the DWP

Well lets assume the poverty wage is the goal, at 4.33 hours a month lets hope that job pays hundreds if not a thousand dollars an hour. Where can we find jobs like that that hires disabled people?
Plus for ME/CFS the travel and outside of job work is unpaid but will burn most of us out and would take far more then the 12 minutes a day. I can't shower or shave daily or drive to a job and back (or interact with humans for long periods) so if i'm burning my energy just trying how will i get through that work?

Such evils should have ended in 1945
there is utterly no excuse for it.

there are few decent jobs anyway.
all part of a huge evil con game so the rich and powerful can evade tax, blame scapegoats, destroy law and human life so they can have "more"...as happened before, and will happen again and again until they are finally understood to be the REAL enemy.

I guess it's true that you only qualify not to work at all when you are dead.

...er..............actually no @Kina .not according to the DWP..

A friend of mine applied for sickness benefit for his ~Post Viral Syndrome.

He was declined (of course)

The reason for rejection, according to the DWP, given in writing, was:

' Your Post Vival state is not of sufficient severity to warrant an award of benefit'

So there we have it straight from the mouth of the DWP.......................there is 'dead'.......................and 'sufficiently dead' to warrant benefit.

A doctor evaluating if I should get an exemption from the Dutch language testing did something similar. I explained that I couldn't sit up for long, I get exhausted after traveling, my cognitive function is likely to cut out as a result, and I'd probably be sick for days afterward.

Her suggestion, in addition to getting cured by CBT, was to take 5 years to do it 5 minutes at a time. The sad thing is that she had attended an informational event hosted by an ME/CFS organization some years prior (which is probably why she was assessing ME patients) but apparently learned absolutely nothing.

Fortunately the agency making the decision ignored her advice completely and gave me an exemption based on my CPET results and a letter from my Belgian specialist. But I suspect that her "coach" similarly doesn't believe in her illness and is therefore not attempting to actually accommodate it, and rather attempting to force her to heal herself.

Yes, socialism is working so well in Britain, they'll have more of it.
When the 99% stop working, take all the money from the 1%, guillotine them, who's going to do 99% of the work?

Very scary, the taxes we paid goes to job center worker to make decisions like this. This is beyond stupidity, this is fascism.

It's not socialism that's failing Britain--it's corporate culture and the ever increasing sequestering of money for the very few. Multinational corporations have such a huge divide in the power they wield through lobbying for what they want and they are not beholden to anyone--in theory they are beholden to their shareholders but now even that doesn't necessarily hold as they only need to satisfy majority shareholders of whom there are increasingly few.

Also, the argument of guillotining the 1% is false argument that jumps to an unwarranted conclusion. There is enough production and the profits of production to pay people a living wage, to stop zero hour contracts, and to stop (often with young people starting out trying to find steady employment) this 'work for us at a training wage' then when the training period is over we fire you saying there is no work and hire new training wage labourers. There are many more such schemes. There is no legitimate excuse for that kind of economic behaviour toward the 99% of the labour force. There are times when it has not been so.

@Snowdrop

I don't live in Britain and so I'm not intimately familiar with the situation. Maybe I should rephrase that to satirize quick stick on solutions like "make everything capitalist" or " make everything socialist", which invariably ignore it the subtleties of how things actually work.... but I couldn't think of a quip to encompass that.

But in my experience any bureaucracy run by the government gives not a rats tail about the people it's intended to serve. When the government is the grand puppeteer of some process, you can't fire them, you can't go to another store, you can't pick another insurance company with different policies. If the gov takes enough space from the market you can't even pay cash at an independent store, because such a thing cannot survive without enough business.
When a large corporation becomes a monopoly or noncompeting multipoly, it becomes like a government. Unlike a government it can eventually be run out of business for incompetence, like General Motors. But.

Governments are needed to regulate things, to fund research, and provide services like water and the fire department. Let them choose how you get your food, housing and healthcare and you're going to wind up with slop, buildings that light up like a match and the Wessley school of malevolent medicine.

That may have been the case once upon a time but now gov't and big business collude. And neither one is going to deliver. You get people like Wessely not just because of gov't but because of big insurance also. They are drinking from the same champagne bottle. Both need to change through being held accountable and through greater transparency.

Yes, exactly! That was the case of General Motors (and the former Chrysler), though in that instance it was the government and the unions colluding & stealing, usually it's gov & management. **

Yet the effect was the same in the end; both labor and about half of management at those companies were insulated from decades of mismanagement, and the public got shoved (you may substitute a word more colorful than 'shoved') Again here in the US, health insurers and the gov worked closely together on ACA, along with "policy experts" - which I place in quotes, because they are expert at managing their careers in policy, but not in delivering results.

** Here is the US, the GM bailout is rather famous. It may not be so elsewhere.
