Naturopath will not provide me my test results till I see her!

Pardon the strong language here, but I'm very angry.

My Genova comprehensive stool and parasites test is finally here, and I really want to know the results.

Naturopath can't see me till May 10th, so I offered to pay for the administrative costs of having the test scanned (if they're in paper form) and emailed to me, so I can see them in the meantime,

She refuses to do so. She gave me some bullshit blurb about how her regulated industry puts importance on ensuring patient safety by divulging test results in presence pf a health care specialist.

So this knowledge is a danger to my safety without a naturopath present?! Is that what this means?! What kind of paternalistic bullshit is that? Or is it she wants to make sure she gets paid while I see the results? I was going to see her anyways so what is this really about, I ask!

First off, this is not an OHIP service (I live in Canada, OHIP is government paid medical services, such as ordinary doctors, which are fully covered and heavily regulated). It's a private service, and I paid $400 of my own pocket money to have this PRIVATE test done! I OWN THIS INFORMATION, What gives her the right to withhold this information from me till I see her?!

I've always been annoyed by this level of PATERNALISM towards patient information by ordinary doctors. Patients these days are too informed. You can't just withhold information to do with THEIR OWN HEALTH from them, and pretend you're worried they may accidentally stab themselves with the paperwork. I personally have always thought all test results (even by ordinary doctors) should be available to the patient online the MOMENT they're done, even before you see the doctor, because we OWN this information, NO ONE ELSE.

And this is a privately paid naturopth pulling this bullcrap on me?!

This has nothing to do with patient safety and everything to do with CONTROL.

Now that I've vented (I apologize for this) is there reputable a lab I can order a D-Lactate test by myself, without having to go through this type of treatment?

Thanks for the help.

@Prefect what a load of crapola. I had all sorts of testing done $800 (outside of OHIP) at a Biomedical centre and was able to obtain all my test results without seeing my doctor first. I was anxious to know what my results were and they gladly emailed them to me.

Who is "she"? The receptionist or the NP?

When I went to see a virologist the receptionist refused to print out copies of my test results until I went into the office and demanded them. She told me it would cost $50 to have them printed out and I told her I will not pay this and to print them out. So she did, but I had to go into the office which was very tiring for me.

Where is this? I live in Toronto. I really want to get a D-Lactate test done (ordinary doc will likely be reluctant to do it if your anion gap is normal) and am looking for getting it done myself. But I want something reputable, not a bunch of litmus strips in a box some hairy back shyster put together in his basement and is advertising online.

I'm fed up with health care professionals of any kind, because of their bullshit condescending attitude, and the fact that their collective knowledge is nothing compared to that of someone who's suffered chronic illness for 20 years and done research for as long. I pretty much use doctors as facilitators of tests I want to get done, and if they can't fulfill that function they're basically useless to me.

Who is "she"? The receptionist or the NP?

It was the NP that refused to do it. I won't name her because I don't want to tarnish her name. She's probably following the same protocol laid down by the self regulatory entity she's part of, design to ensure control of the process to the professionals so that they can maximize how much money they can make off patients.

Hello. Don't worry, Anion gap has nothing to do with D-lactate test.
D-lactate blood test in ME CFS is a test for dysbiosis, e.g, bacterial overgrowth in stomach.

If you want it done email REDLABS who now have a lab in USA and check if you can mail it to them from Canada, You'll have to ship the sample to Reno Nevada. Sample is stable for 24hrs, see if FEDEX/DHL can get it there in time. If not and you still want it done you'll have to find someone to ship it frozen on ice (-20c to -80c).

Hope that helps.

Sounds to me like she is afraid she is going to lose you as a patient if she gives you results beforehand.

And really, are you going to do something unsafe with the results except go through them and decide what YOU want to ask her about them. Ridiculous.

You can take a look at the Standards of Practice for Naturopaths in your Province -- should be under 'College of Naturopaths'.

If you can't find anything that refers to what she is saying I would contact her and say so. If she still refuses to send you the results, you could complain to the College of Naturopaths and ask them about what she has told you.

Much appreciated Research 1st, I'll look into Redlab. I did earlier today and seemed to get the impression they needed practitioner to order the test, but I'll look again.

Sorry I can't help you out with a lab. Just letting you know that you are supported by me, and hopefully others here.

Just 3 days ago , I was sitting in my"GP" doctor's office, when she went somewhat cuckoo; muttering comments(just look at you sitting over there like you know everything{were the actual words] ).

She did it twice, and the 2nd time : I fired her on the spot. Told her "You are fired", got up, walked away.
Didn't even get to send the lab requests , which is why I was there.

Gotta tell you, it felt great. I feel we just have to stand up to these "doctors" who don't know much and refuse to study. Fire all of them.

You can go to gdx.net and get your results online. You need a social security number, but if you call the company I am sure you can work out something (assuming you are Canadian). Usually, GDX post them up 14 days after sending to the doctor. I would try to go through the company and then never go back to that Dr. again (don't get mad, get even! And ask your friends here how!). You can find the interpretation guide online and post your results here to get better answers then you get from most Dr.

Thanks satori. Their website says patients can see test results 10 days after they've been released to the "physician". That's pretty much when I'll be seeing her.

This entire industry is set up to maximize money made by the charlatans involved by keeping control in the hands of the practitioners.
