MDs in Vermont...?

Hi everybody,
Does anyone have personal experience or a reference for a good ME/CFS specialist in Vermont? I thought I remembered a thread from maybe 5 yrs ago or so, but couldn't drum up any results other than in MA. Hopefully though, there are some members here living in VT.

Diagnosis isn't a concern at this point, but someone literate and willing to work with complex cases and not put off by multiple diagnoses is not easy to find. I was lucky to have Dr. Buscher here in WA as a consult, and a much-better-than-average MD as a local until 2 years ago when he left the area. It's been like a snowball built around a lead basketball rolling down a cliff since, and the housing situation has become untenable with wait lists topping 2 years. So, I'm considering a big move.

I'm not certain if Dr. Buscher would still be able to prescribe the compounded injectables from afar, so if anyone has personally seen someone in VT who prescribes specialty b12 and other less-common things, please share. Currently, in WA, I can get no coverage (no exceptions granted under any circumstances) through Medicare or Medicaid, and I'm not sure if there is any hope of better/different coverage in VT. It's been a long time since I was a resident and, at that time, the system was certainly much better than what I've encountered in other places, but I know that things are always changing and no amount of brushing up on programs or law will really tell me what to expect.

Hi Zoe,
Have you had any luck finding anyone? I'm in Vermont too. I'm thinking of seeing Susan Levine in NYC. I had hoped to find someone closer like Boston, or Dartmouth Hitchcock or upstate NY but no luck as of yet...

I recall a guy who lived in Northern VT, been meaning to look him up. (Seems he is no longer on the forum? (If someone recalls his name/handle, I would like to check in on him.). Think he went to Northhampton Wellness Center in Mass.

My dr is in MA as well, and I would have gone to Northampton, if my Dr was not able to help me, and been willing to try usual and atypical (off label) treatments as well. I would like more functioning, but I seem to do better than most, not sure why that is? Perhaps genetics or ? Been ill 14 years, male as well, a minority of the minority neglected

Thanks GG, I found this glowing recommendation from Michael Murphy a guy in Vermont, maybe he is who you are thinking of?
Here's the blog post he wrote http://immunedysfunction.org/northampton.html
and there are several North Hampton Wellness Centers - he was referring to this one: http://northamptonintegrativemedicine.com/meet-our-practitioners/
Which is the same one you mentioned

Thank you so much for your recommendation!

@zoe.a.m. @Cyndia isn't there a well-known lyme doctor named Maureen McShane who lives around there?
Hi Daffodil, I just looked her up and yes, she's in Plaatsburgh NY, Just across the lake from Burlington, so only about 2 hrs away.
I'm a little nervous about seeing a lyme specialist rather than an ME/CFS specialist. Do you know much about her? She doesn't have a web site.
Here's her info though in case its helpful to anyone else:
Dr. Maureen H. Mcshane, MD
Address: 396-B Tom Miller Rd, Plattsburgh, NY 12901
Phone: (518) 324-5548

Thank you!

@Cyndia well i did call her office once and they mailed me some literature. looks like she does all the typical stuff....diet, gut stuff, antibiotics oral and IV, etc. seemed alright. i remember thinking she was expensive but maybe all the good ones are. i know she once had lyme herself and canada wouldnt treat so she opened her practice near the canadian border so canadians like her might have a place to get treated

i have seen several doctors now though not her. the only one i can recommend wholeheartedly is dr. demeirleir in reno/brussels

Northhampton, MA, correct? if so, this place is in the same town, and I have heard it highly regarded by patients, never been to the place. So cannot speak from experience.

If you don't want to go there, https://www.masscfids.org/services would probably be able to help you out with MA DRs, not sure how far their reach is outside of the State, actually no good specialists in that large state, so those of us in less populous states are going to have even fewer options :(

from MA CFIDS

"To recommend a physician or other health care provider

One of the most requested services is Physician Referral. Depending on your needs, we can provide one or more names of physicians or other health care providers who have been recommended by other patients. We can provide more detailed information on providers in Massachusetts. If you live in another state, please see Links to lists of health care providers outside of Massachusetts.

We are always looking for health care provider information to add to our database. If you wish to recommend a physician or other health care provider who has helped you, please fill out our online Provider Recommendation Form. Alternatively, you may download and print the more detailed Health Care Provider Information Questionnaire, fill in as much information as you know, and mail it in to the address at the top of the form.

Information you provide will be used to assist other patients. This is a very important way that you can help."

I've actually heard of that place, now I'll really have to try it because that's two recommendations! Will set up an appointment tomorrow!
