Hi everyone,

Please excuse the sloppy organization, but please do read it all.

I'm new to this forum and had a bunch of questions. Normally I never post on forums and just try to find answers myself but after lots of reading and self experimentation, I felt like I was getting no where. I did find tons of helpful info from people like @Freddd and @caledonia . So thank you guys

So basically I got into methylation because I've been having trouble with fatigue-like symptoms. Unfortunately my doctor won't run any vitamin deficiency tests on me, and I live in NYC so naturopathic doctors arent covered by health insurance. To visit one, I'd have to pay out of my own pocket and I'm a broke college student.

So basically I dont know what I have because I cant afford testing from a naturopath. I have just done a lot of research and I think I might be an undermethylator. I have symptoms like severe premature ejaculation (I ejaculate within 30 seconds of penetration no matter how many consecutive times I have sex). This is the main problem for me and the most embarrassing... I would really like to solve this issue as I have just found a girl who I have sex with and don't want to keep disappointing. My other symptoms include chronic fatigue, anxiety at times, depression that comes and goes, sensitivity to light, etc. I feel that I might have adrenal fatigue? Ive read up on symptoms of hypo/hyper thyroidism and have been supplementing with iodine. I also have symptoms of copper toxicity but I'm not sure if I have that either. I know that methylation sorts out neurotransmitters and Ive read that premature ejaculation can be affected by low levels of serotonin, gaba, dopamine, acetylcholine, and also by high histamines.

I found that I didnt react well to a regular multivitamin, so I figured I dont react well to folic acid. I bought a good b complex from douglas laboratories with methylfolate. When I first took this, I felt amazing for 2-3 days and then I felt depressed after a couple days. I thought it might be due to methyl trapping or a donut hole deficiency so I tried to supplement more methyl b12 and methylfolate. I noticed that I had some pretty intense tachychardia from methyl b12 (I bought the 5 star brand - enzymatic therapy). Ignoring these symptoms, I kept taking more and supplemented with lots of potassium, thinking that it wasnt from the b12. I got up to 10 lozenges a day, 10,000 mcg and the symptoms didnt really change much but I realized that they were coming from the b 12. I tried taking more potassium (citrate and gluconate) but that only helped temporarily. I was up to 5 800mcg solgar methylfolate pills a day. I felt semi-normal/ better. I wasnt sure if how much to take, I started taking more methylfolate because I was getting the folate deficiency symptoms like rashes, itchiness, very light acne, styes, and canker sores. I dont know how much to take tbh, I wanna go back to that amazing feeling I had when I first introduced the B complex. I believe I felt that good because my neurotransmitters sorted out.

Ive also tried the seeking health adeno b12, it gave me lots of energy, I take a 3000 mcg lozenge every few days, Ive tried cartinine fumurate, and I dont really notice any symptoms from it ( ive tried acetyl l cartinine as well)

Taking b12 also raises histamine symptoms.. I get itchy. I dont know if I tolerate methyl B12 well, Ive read that COMT can make you sensitive to b12 but idk if i have that because I didnt get genetic testing. When first taking b12, it gave my a nice boost of energy, tinnitus, harder erections, better senses (it looked like I was viewing the world in HD, and my hearing got better/more sensitive). Taking too much b12 (when I was on 10 a day) gave me decreased libido.

Im afraid of methyl trapping from not taking enough b12, and too much methylfolate. Im also afraid from the intense heart palpitations I get and to be honest Im not 100% sure which place im getting it from but I think it might be the methyl b12 because I feel it when I take methylb12 first thing in the morning.

Anyways, please help me and I can answer any questions about myself. I just really want to get better.

Also I think my problems might be linked to my liver because at one point my liver enzyme activity was high and at that time I was feeling extreme stress and anxiety. I recently got retested and the doctor said all my levels were normal (thyroid, liver, and cholesterol) but I'm skeptical. I forgot to mention I used to have symptoms of high histamine as a kid and still do (Id get rashes very easily). I also have been skinny my whole life (this is a undermethylation symptom I believe?) I can eat a lot and not gain weight.

Not to make light of your situation, but I would love to have a little bit of that problem!! I've always had subnormal sensitivity. Even the night I lost my virginity at age 18, I didn't have an orgasm until our fifth go at about 3am. (Fortunately I had a very enthusiastic partner. :D)

You say it does that "no matter how many times" you have sex. Can you continue intercourse after an ejaculation, or do you immediately go limp and need a long refractory period? If you could keep it going until you got hard again, then experience another orgasm in another 30 seconds, again and again... you would be the envy of every man on the planet!!

On your other questions, it's really hard to tell what you're facing if you don't know what genetic issues you're working with. If you could scrape together $99 for a 23andMe test, it might give you a lot more insight as to what's going on.

Hey Gary, we should trade problems.. Lol. I immediately go limp and my refractory period is typically 10 mins.

I was originally planning to do the 23andme test but they raised the price to $199.. How unlucky of me.. Also as I mentioned I live in nyc and I've read that 23andme doesn't take saliva samples from nyc? Not too sure about that.

Thanks for replying though!

No, I don't want your problem, and you don't want to be 60! :D Now if we could **blend** them...

I wonder how drugs like Cialis or Viagra would work for you? Might keep you "ready for action" so you could satisfy your partner AND enjoy a bazillion orgasms. But you'd have trouble finding a doctor to prescribe them for someone your age. Have you tried desensitizing creams & the like?

Hm, bummer about 23andMe doubling their prices. I hadn't heard that. I wonder if they improved their service at all to justify the increase, or if they just decided to boost their profit levels?

Yeah I'm only 19 and plus if rather choose the root cause..

I might just save up to get the 23andme test done. Bummer that it takes 6-8 weeks to get the results back.

I don't know what to tell you, except what you're doing is dangerous (evidenced by the tachycardia) and you should stop taking mega doses of methyl supplements. You should pay attention to symptoms like tachycardia, and not ignore them. If you get worse, you need to stop, not keep pushing.

It's hard to say what's going on without some functional testing to see vitamin and mineral deficiencies, Kreb's cycle, gut infections, neurotransmitter, adrenals, toxic metals, etc. Genetic testing can be helpful too, to see what your genetic methylation and detox tendencies are.

NY's health laws are tough in this regard. You may be able to go to a doc in a neighboring state or do some consulting with a methylation practitioner by phone.

That being said, you did have some early progress, so that's a clue that methylation treatment might be helpful - see Caledonia's Methylation Links in my signature for Ben Lynch's articles on Methylfolate Side Effects for some ideas on why that happens and what to do about it.

Also see the links for Methylation Practitioners. I just updated it to the correct working links.

Thank you so much for replying, I've already read some of Ben lynch's links regarding methylfolate side effects. I've lowered my methyl b12 to 1000 mcg a day and the symptoms are much more tolerable. For methylfolate I think I need more and feel pretty good in terms of general mood at around 1600 mcg to 2400mcg a day, sometimes more. I'm just afraid of methyl trapping. I'll try to do more research and try to save up to see a naturopath. They're pretty expensive here in NY and they don't take insurance.

Again, it means a lot that you replied as I've read a lot of your past posts and gained a lot of knowledge from them. Thank you!!

Hi everyone,

Sensitivity to light is one of the symptoms of Pyrrole disorder. You might need to take more zinc and/or P5P.

When you say chronic fatigue, I am assuming that you mean fatigue all the time and not that you have crashes (PEM)? This happened to my son and his fatigue was from low zinc. Zinc deficiency interferes with the purine salvage pathway and the purines are the A in ATP, the main energy unit of the cells. He also has problems with depression. He has a combination of pyrrole disorder (most people here refer to it as pyroluria) and undermethylation. When purines can't be recycled glycine will be drained from the body, so high doses of any good form of folate will improve your fatigue by helping you to synthesize glycine, but glycine deficiency may be mitigating your depression symptoms so if you take a lot of folate your depression might become much worse. This happened when my son took 5 mg of folate; his fatigue went away in about 2 hours after the first dose but after about 6 weeks he started getting more and more depressed so think twice about taking a lot of folate or even any folate. For other people who are reading this - this does not apply to everyone, but it applies to my son and people with similar biotype problems.

If you indeed are having the same sort of thing going on as my son the answer is to take high zinc (maybe 30 mg 3 times a day for a while) and NO folate of any kind at all (this means separate B vitamins). I get powdered B's and mix them myself to make a B complex without folate. Also you need to be eating some meat at every meal or else take 1 gm of methionine at any meal you don't have meat. The methionine in the meat or supplemental methionine helps bypass the need for folate/B12 recycling of methionine from homocysteine but you need to have enough B6 to get rid of the homocysteine so P5P 50-200 mg at first. Later 50-100 mg. It's a good idea to take at least part of the P5P sublingually to make sure it makes it to the brain. (I am assuming that you don't have extreme reactions to supplements such as many of the CFS/ME people here do. If you do, you have to be more cautious.) It's a good idea to test B6 and Zinc levels if you can - be sure to stop supplements 4-5 days before testing or it will skew the results. High dose B6 can lead to symptoms of numbness and tingling in a few people, but if you are losing B6 due to pyroluria you would not be too likely to have this problem. If you do get numbness or tingling stop taking it.

If you get palpitations some niacinamide should help but take the smallest dose that works.

It takes about 3 weeks of this to see a change in the depression symptoms. As your zinc levels come up you might have to limit high folate foods, too. It's surprising how much you get in food, even if you don't eat "fortified" foods.

@Thedanster

Sensitivity to light could also be from low B2. I normally don't have this, but recently found out that I must have been going too high taking some B5, and got light sensitivity. Took a small amount of sublingual FMN and it cleared that up rather quickly.

There are therapies for premature ejaculation. It would probably be worth your while to see a sex therapist.

@Thedanster,
.
Doing things like that can be dangerous and even fatal. Getting methylation going, which is relatively easy with MeCbl and Metafolin without realizing that it also can cause refeeding syndrome which kicks in about the third day, and if not handled correctly with enough potassium EVERY DAY, followed by up to a dozen or more deficiencies, can be fatal.

From what you describe I would think you also experienced induced low folate which causes potentially a vast rise in histamine along with widespread inflammation. Refeeding syndrome was discovered at the end of WW2 when people from concentration camps started dropping dead a few days after they stared eating. All these things also affect hormones. Starting refeeding syndrome, which is caused by turning on tissue growth and hopefully healing, can be fatal if done haphazardly without proper preparations and knowing what to do. Also, healing is a 10,000 step path, with only the final step being "healed". Everything else is still just differently damaged. And knowing what is pointing at disaster versus on the road to healing is everything.] You are not going to heal on a haphazard program but you could do serious damage or death.

And premature ejaculation can be caused by deficiency causing the lack of hormones that would cause you to be otherwise functional.
