Prof Austin Darragh has passed away, aged 88.

He was one of the leading ME experts in Ireland ever, and one of the authors of the International Consensus Criteria on ME (2011) http://bit.ly/otpIi3 and the International Consensus Primer on ME (2012) http://bit.ly/1MRl0OZ .

He also diagnosed me in 1994 after a thorough medical assessment and physical exam (first appointment was around 90 minutes). I attended him on and off for a number of years. I also had quite a lot of phone calls with him on ME matters.

Thank you for letting us know and sharing a bit about him.
As often as we curse all the members of the medical profession that do wrong by us, it's important to remember there are those who have championed our cause and helped so many. Perhaps we need to celebrate them more ?

If I could drink I would have a toast to Dr. Darragh and thank him for being such a fine person and for helping us all.
