the bains method is not quite what I am looking at though. I read that thread, and it is actually to "softcore" for me. I am wondering if anyone does full cold showers or baths? On a related note-do you see effects beyond just the two hours?

Well my newfound cold hardiness is a consistent improvement and that's pretty remarkable as i was previously one of the most cold sensitive people i know. Not that i'm as cold hardy as some men i see out in t-shirts and shorts in cold weather but i've seen a marked improvement.

Apart from Asklipia, this is where i learned about cold therapy:
http://jackkruse.com/cold-thermogenesis-easy-start-guide/

Also Mark Sisson writes clearly about it:

I would think really sick people would not respond well to serious cold therapy although they may benefit from bains derivatifs.I think your adrenal system has to be fairly functional before you try anything more than bains.

Old thread but couldn't decide where to post this: Karl Morten's talk probably deserves a thread of it's own. :)

Just wanted to mention it looks like a clinical study using cryotherapy (3 minutes at very, very cold) was done on patients in Poland recently. the study was funded partially by Julia Newton's group and by Karl Morten's group at Oxford. If I'm understanding correctly they hope to follow up in the UK with another study.

He talks about cryotherapy from around 49 mins 30 seconds in. (Apols my link starts from a different place in the talk...not sure how to prevent that.)
