Do my tests show chronic EBV?

Do my test results show chronic EBV?
Can chronic EBV last for years, and how does it cause CFS?
What are its symptoms and how is it diagnosed and treated?

These are my EBV test results:
Component

Your Value

EBV Vca IgG

Positive

EBV-VCA IgM

Negative

EBV-early antigen

Positive

EBV Nuclear Antigen

Positive

My doctor did not tell me what the results mean, even though I wrote to her asking for an explanation.

I feel ill and sick and very tired. I have been getting worse for a long time (years).

Do I need an IgG subclass, or CMV, HHV-6, Lyme or mycoplasma test?

I also have a HIGH CD4/CD8 Ratio (5), and a LOW CD3/CD8 T-Cell Absolute Count.

I want to bring my doctr medical information that shows my EBV tests are abnormal, and what further tests I need.

Can anybody help me with this?
Where can I find information that proves my tests are abnormal?

This short thread might be useful to you.

I think that very few doctors know how to interpret these results, or how to treat these viruses. I believe that your positive early antigen result indicates a current reactivation of EBV. I don't know if or how this is treated, absent a positive IgM.

Hello Jeanne,

I see you are new to this board. Welcome.

My strong advice to you is to find a CFS/ME specialist. Seek out a specialist as soon as you can, if you have the physical and financial ability to do so. Where are you located? There are specialists all over the world, though there are relatively few of them. I personally see Dr. Kaufman in Northern California. He is an expert at interpreting test results and treating patients with CFS/ME.

There is a "Doctors and Diagnostics" forum on this board. You might want to spend time browsing that section.

Thank you. I live in Cleveland, OH and think I have chronic EBV along with other co-infections, because I feel ill all the time and can not stand or walk too long. I will brouse the Doctors and Diagnostics forum as you suggest.

I think I have chronic EBV (for over 10 years) and I think it is making me very sick.

I agree with jeff_w that you'll probably need to see a CFS specialist to figure this out. I learned which doctors ran the kinds of tests I was interested in, and then I picked the one who was an easy airplane ride away. Because you have to see them at least once a year, legally, to get prescriptions refilled.

How do I find a CFS doctor? Can they order tests locally through other doctors if they are too far away for me to travel to? I do not drive. I live in Cleveland, Ohio.

Jeff gave you a link in post #5. I'm able to do a 2+ hour direct flight as long as I get rides to and from the airport on both ends. I see Dr. Rey in Fort Lauderdale FL, and my hotel provides an airport shuttle and rides to the doctor and to shops and restaurants within 2 miles. There's a lot close by. I did a lot of research here about doctors, and there weren't many choices in range.

A doctor can't order tests or provide prescriptions without seeing you first, and then once a year.
