Please HELP me understand my Epstein Barr Virus test

I'm have been Googling my EBV test results trying to find the severity of the virus pertaining to my positive test level to no avail..
Ok here's the test word for word, abbr for abbr and number for number:

Test: EPSTEIN BARR VIR CAP AB, IGG & IGM


EBV (EPSTEIN BARR) ABS, IGG 3.13
<0.90 NEGATIVE
>= 0.90 to < 1.1 EQUIVOCAL
>= 1.1 POSITIVE


Interpretation is as follows:
NEGATIVE at <0.90 May indicate no previous exposure to EBV
Values at 1.1 or greater may be consistent with:
ACTIVE,RECENT or CHRONIC INFECTION

<0.90 NEGATIVE
>= 0.90 to < 1.1 EQUIVOCAL
>= 1.1 POSITIVE

Let me get this straight..

I am THREE TIMES the minimum POSITIVE of ABS IGG levels,correct?


I am NEGATIVE at 0.07 of ABS IGM levels,correct?

What does this all mean?

I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help me with this.

Ok, I just figured out that ABS = antibodies,Lol....

The simple answer is that a positive IgG and negative IgM to EBV viral capsid is indicative of immunity derived from a past infection. My understanding is that a new or reactivated infection will show elevated IgM.

Otherwise it's hard to find information about what quantitative value constitutes a reactivated infection. I've only seen reference to exact values in one paper, I believe by Dr. Montoya, and it gives titer values instead of the value shown in your test here which I believe is done by ELISA.

Seems like anti bodies from previous infection, though that high amount of elevated IGG levels sounds like it could have been re activated.

My IGG is 3.94. Right when I got the labs done last month I was feeling horrible. I still have a sore throat almost every day and can barely keep my eyes open. I feel like I did when I had mono.

Even though we don't know for sure what the numbers mean, I'm sure I have a reactivation and and upped my Famvir and am slamming myself with immune modulators. It is definitely helping but I have a ways to go.

My IgG EBV is elevated, but IgM is negative. It doubled between 2012 and 2013, and then went down a little on its own (no treatment) this May.

Dr. Rey reads this as reactivation. I'm getting tested again at the end of this month, and she's indicated that she'll probably start me on anti-virals.

Traditional medicine would say IgG without IgM only shows a past infection but with significant immune impairment, many CFS specialists would disagree. I was positive on both as well as EBNA and early antigen but I can't tell you exactly what these means as I don't know enough about the science.

Ok, I just figured out that ABS = antibodies,Lol....

I have several years of EBV labs. Right now they are negative, probably because I'm brimming with Valcyte, but I don't feel incredibly better. My results are expressed as a ratio that shows how much my sample can be diluted before the virus antibody can no longer be detected. For example, 1:640. I am not sure if that is the same as yours.
