Does anyone here know any doctors in southern California who are/may be willing to work with anti-viral treatments and CFS patients?

I see a NP who is RX'ing me Famvir but I also got Valtrex and acyclovir from her. She also knows methylation and immune stuff. Where in So Cal are you?

I do not (and was in that same boat!) and ultimately found a CFS specialist in Northern CA.

@Ema, Holtorf isn't that popular out here like he was when he first opened his clinic. He was more into the money. Reviews on the clinic are mixed and recent ones are few and far between. He certainly wouldn't be my first choice.

Nor mine for the reasons you mention. But the pickings are slim...

@I'm very happy with my NP. She gets it, doesn't have an ego, supports me with crazy stuff I do and she does Skype appointments.

BTW finally got lab orders for pre pneumovax. Will get that in a week or 2. But the vaccine only comes in 5 dose vials so PCP needs to round up 4 others to give the vaccine to unless I can come up with something.

Hi minkeygirl, thanks for your response- your NP sounds fantastic. I'm in Los Angeles and Orange County- I travel between the two throughout the week. However, I'm willing to travel especially to someone such as your NP. Is this anywhere near you?

@aussie777 I really like her, Koren Barrett. Yes very near me. I saw her for my first appointment last October which was an hour (I cried it was such a relief to talk to someone who got it) and all my other appointments have been Skype. PM me if you want more info.

I personally would not go to Holtorf.

@Ema @aussie777 I just looked at Holtorf's website and he says CFS is a malfunction of the pituitary. Huh?
I saw that too. I was tempted to write and ask for a reference. But nice to see it called out as a brain dysfunction, at least rather than a psychosomatic illness!

I would proceed cautiously with Holtorf and not spend buckets of money on their supplements and just use them for the prescriptions you want. It may or may not be a good option though.

@Ema I've been reading his Yelp reviews. Not that great. Charges for everything under the sun, charges for things they don't tell you about, and it goes on.

But I don't like his theory on CFS and FM.

If it was between my NP and him, no contest.

Oh there also a doctor in Santa Ana that Rich Vank knew.

Here's her site. I was going to see her but ruled her out, again bad reviews. And she says everyone has Lyme's.

I know someone who sees Dr Bhakta for Lyme. She has been very pleased but I can see how her approach might not suit everyone. Basically everything has to be changed (diet, environment, etc) and it can be very overwhelming and expensive.

I'm not endorsing Holtorf; just saying it might be possible to get the meds needed without being shut down automatically like most conventional docs.

Awesome, you made my day. I just sent her an email, so hopefully I'll have an appointment set up soon. By the way, I have Aetna, do you go through insurance with her? (I'm most likely going to use her whether she's in my network or not).

From some I've read about Bhaktra, she tells everyone they need IV ABX. And if you don't have Lyme, then I'm not sure what she does besides that and methylation.

I agree that Holtorf will give you meds BUT he'll rob you blind in the process. My NP had no problem giving me Famvir, Valtrex or Acyclovir and she doesn't rob me blind.

She's available by email and she doesn't force me to buy supplements from her.

@aussie777 She is off on Friday's so she may not get back to you until next week. It also takes at least a month to get an appointment so you may want to call her office and set something up.

I'm not sure how insurance works with her because I pay out of pocket. She may just give you a superbill to submit to your insurance.
