Ever since I got ill, one thing that has accompanied me is facial eczema, which fluctuates a lot but has NEVER in these years of illness dissapeared completely. Along with annoying very copious dandruff, but I had that one before.

My theory is that mild skin disorders appears when you have IgG allergies because of a dysfunctional gut. Over time this can progress to IgE allergies, that´s why first appears the dermatitis (a leaky gut symptom as I prove in the last links).

A good overview of how atopic dermatitis means autoimmunity, inflammation and allergic reactions to food:

The leaky gut link with dermatitis/eczema:

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022347604006341

We have investigated gastrointestinal permeability in children with atopic eczema by measuring the relative urinary excretion rates of the inert di- and monosaccharides lactulose and rhamnose following their oral administration. The median lactulose/rhamnose ratio was greater in 26 children with atopic eczema than in a control group of 29 children which included both healthy individuals and others with various noneczematous dermatoses. This increased permeability may be a primary abnormality of the gut or may reflect intestinal mucosal damage caused by local hypersensitivity reactions to food antigens.

I did have eczema/dermatitis until I started my leaky-gut diet and supplements last year. The skin on my palms was very flaky, and often split and bled, which was very painful and damned inconvenient as it's almost impossible to put a dressing on one's palm and still get on with life.

For many years I tried a wide range of creams, lotions, salves, etc., some of which worked for a very short time and some of which did not work at all. These were variously prescription, over-the-counter and natural products.

Not long after changing my diet, my palms became completely smooth again! My sinus congestion and many other symptoms have also improved markedly.

I got psoriasis (thank you dad), long before I got sick. I don't think it's any worse because of the the disease. Any progression has to do with stress unrelated to my being sick.

I'm going to see a Rheumatologist (just got the referral) and actually hope to get Methotrexate to also help with my CMV.

I found this 23andme poll on psoriasis interesting.
http://blog.23andme.com/23andme-research/what-patients-say-works-for-psoriasis/

It shows what patients say actually works as opposed to medical theories.
I don't have Psoriasis. But I've often reacted to food & ??? with itching and Metafolin [folate] has repeatedly tamed my "itches".
Blessing to you!

Interesting but I don't see anything on there about biologicals.

I never cared much with psoriasis on my skin or scalp but it is going to my fingernails now which crosses the line for me. I remember my dad's nails were like petrified wood and I just can't go there.

Minkeygirl you were sick then long before getting ME, you just got the grand prize thanks to chronic infections and what not. Psoriasis has to do with leaky gut and leaky gut has to do with CFS (in some cases at least). The fact is, I think everyone chronically ill has been and will always be different from the chronically healthy. Meaning that in a sense we will always be ill or in the verge of being ill, and that explains why when people get into remission can and usually get back to being non-functional.

Hi what did the diet consist of?

I never heard until now that Psoriasis is from leaky gut. And if so why does LDN help it?

What I meant was that I had psoriasis years before ME was even on my radar and my ME was precipitated by a wrong diagnosis which crashed my adrenals. Then I got a virus I never recovered from.

Thanks for voting!

PD: My dandruff is currently driving me crazy! (scracthing his scurfy head). Is actually one of these few times the itching prevents me from sleeping. And the nose eczema is quite annoying as well, when you are in the bed in the middle of the night with insomnia these feelings get boosted.

OK - time to see if anyone else has the weird skin condition I have had on my scalp for years. It's not eczema or dandruff.

The skin has gone lumpy. I can pull up big lumps of it, which are squidgy and feel like lumps of fat, and sometimes it feels as though I might be able to pull a lump right off. I've tried searching on medical sites but have not been able to identify it. At first I thought it might be a return of the really bad scalp lumps I had when I had chickenpox as a young child, but it's different, without the excruciating itching I had then. Maybe sebaceous cysts?

I was diagnosed with eczema of the scalp a couple of years before the onset of ME in the early 80's. About 10 years later, I was diagnosed with psoriasis of the scalp, which, though more severe than the eczema, has responded fairly well to OTC medicated shampoos for psoriasis.

I assume that the earlier "eczema" was just sort of a sub-clinical precursor to what would become scalp psoriasis.

Recently, I also developed meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) which impairs the production and/or delivery of the "oil" component of the tear film. This can result in the rapid evaporation of the tear-film and, consequently to dry, burning eyes (which, in my case - in combination with contact lens wear - led to giant papillary conjunctivitis). Apparently, MGD, is seen more frequently in people with psoriasis. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8883550

In the poll above, I'm not sure if it would make sense to distinguish between scalp psoriasis and the more wide spread form of psoriasis that can occur on other parts of the body.

So far, 75% of 20 persons. Pretty interesting. It adds more evidence to autoimmunity, intestinal inflammation etc

It would be higher if I hadn't got rid of mine so can't honestly say I have eczema/dermatitis!

That´s a good thing anyway! Congratulations  I can´t wait to make mine go away. It´s been now three years or so since we were out partying and a friend noted me that I had something on my face. I know that the day that my scalp and face eczema are gone I will have improved drastically my GI tract - and thus my illness.

I get eczema only every now and then.

Many years ago I used to get it just under my left elbow, it would go away and then come back for couple of days and then disappear for months on end.

Now I don't get it on my elbow, I now get it just a bit below my left kneecap and that comes and goes as well.

I seem to get them very close or on joints. don't know if that is typical of eczema.
Apparently I had eczema a lot when I was a baby, so I have been told.

I have had problems with dermatitis on the hands. So have to be careful not to use harsh soaps otherwise I can get a flare up.
