Per WebMD:
Phenylalanine is an amino acid, a “building block” of protein. There are three forms of phenylalanine: D-phenylalanine, L-phenylalanine, and the mix made in the laboratory called DL-phenylalanine. D-phenylalanine is not an essential amino acid, and its role in people is not currently understood. L-phenylalanine is an essential amino acid and is the only form of phenylalanine found in proteins. Major dietary sources of L-phenylalanine include meat, fish, eggs, cheese, and milk.
Phenylalanine is used for depression, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD),Parkinson's disease, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, alcohol withdrawal symptoms, and a skin disease called vitiligo.
Some people apply it directly to the skin for vitiligo.
How does it work?

The body uses phenylalanine to make chemical messengers, but it is not clear how phenylalanine might work.

Will do. Just asked what kind of doc, what tests were done, etc. Reviews on the DPA on Amazon are really good. Thanks.

Are you saying saying you took all of these at one time? Sorry but that's nuts.

I"m looking for a few good things for some moderate pain.

No, I am getting a bunch of supplements and trying them one at a time for awhile to see if they work. After I am done, I am keeping the best.

Boswellia and Curcumin are the best so far for inflammation.

Unfortunately, when it comes to Fibromyalgia, like CFS, it seems that everyone is different and different things work for different people. That is why I am experimenting with different supplements recommend in studies and on the internet. I too wish it was easier.

I was just looking into Boswella and Curcumin and found this comment by Andrew Weil FYI

I frequently recommend turmeric supplements, and I believe whole turmeric is more effective than isolated curcumin for inflammatory disorders, including arthritis, tendonitis, and autoimmune conditions. Take 400 to 600 milligrams of turmeric extracts (available in tablets or capsules) three times per day or as directed on the product label. Look for products standardized for 95% curcuminoids. Neither curcumin nor turmeric taken orally is well absorbed unless taken with black pepper or piperine, a constituent of black pepper responsible for its pungency. When shopping for supplements, make sure that the one you choose contains black pepper extract or piperine.

Yes. I also think that it works better with bioperine (black pepper extract). Swanson's Vitamin's Online, I think, has the best dosage. Ooops. I did not see the part about Tumeric. I have not tried the Tumeric whole instead of the Curcumin. But, from what I have read, curcumin is the substance in Tumeric that is the anti-inflammatory (NF-Kappa B Blocker). So, I would guess that higher doses of Curcumin itself would work better.

If it's not too late to answer Dr Teitlebaum's End Pain was helpful for me in the early stages of FM, it can be bought at EndFatigue.com or org or my health food store sells it so it may be sold other places too. If I remember right, it's like willow bark and cherry etc...

As my FM became worse my GP prescribed me Metanx a group of methyl b vitamins. I hate the company, it's the only maker, it's not yet covered by insurance but it's frustrating that it really really helps me in several aspects of my fm and cfs. But most noticeable to me was the pain and ability to walk so much better and bend etc.

I just went back on it after a year and a half of using methyl b vitamins on line and following a modified version of the simplified methylation protocol. But I just couldn't take it. I could not get the right amounts of the configuration of the the m b vitamins and ended up bedridden this year.

It may be complicated by the fact that I finally got in to the only specialist near me ( and still listed on co cure) who nearly killed me high dose NSAIDs and totally disregarded the benefits of metanx or methyl b vitamins.

Bed ridden for most of this year. In 8 years of cfs I had never been bed ridden outside the ungodly freqypuent flu's.

I hope that helps.

Arnica gel never really did much, but was one if the first things recommended when I first found an integrative nurse practitioner to help me around 2007, and when the fm was much milder.

Eliminating nightshades from her diet may help. I would at least try eliminating them for 3 weeks, then add them back and see what happens. At the minimum.
