hi there,
I am a male, 32 year old CFS suffered of 4 years. However, I started having osteoarthritis symptoms about 5 years ago. First was my hip which was diagnosed with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and ended up getting a surgery for it. It is in pretty bad shape and probably will have to be replaced soon. Next came my neck. I started having neck cracks and stiffness and pain that really ruined 4 months of my life and it forced me to stop going to the gym and stop playing the guitar (looking at the chords meant turning my neck in the exact direction which caused cracking and pain). Light weight training in the gym was one of the few things i still could do ( a far cry from my pre-CFS active lifestyle).
So now I have elbow arthritis. Its been 5 months. There is cracking and reduced range of motion and pain. I really am having a hard time using it for anything. So now I have to give up even gentle yoga.

Its interesting that some people descrive inflammation as the root of CFS and anxiety (which I have). And here I am also suffering from another inflammation related problem, i.e., osteoarthritis. I already take curcumin for inflammation (started recently as per the recommendation of one of the users here). Also I am going to start glucosamine. But these probably will have minimal impact and merely slow that the progression.

Does anyone have any suggestions ? this incapacitating arthritis in all these joints is probably worse than the fatigue.

thank you for reading.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear your problems. I have joint pain and take MSM and that seems to stop some of the deterioration and creaking and cracking. I know some people take a fair few things and I think it's trial and error and see what suits you. Give each one about 3 months to see if you feel any benefit although some do protect and you may not be fully aware of what they are actually doing. I'm hoping to have some gentle manipulation and massage. I know not everyone can go for that. My knees, ankles and spine are the worst for me, so I do gentle movements and don't overstress anything. I don't want to seize up or do more damage, but some mobility is needed.

I hope you find something. People I know have tried glucosamine, MSM, omega oils, evening primrose, devil's claw etc. Worth checking out what's safe and available.

Good luck

My dog has very bad arthritis at a very young age so I've researched this topic quite a bit. Most everything applicable to arthritis in dogs and horses is also applicable to humans but certainly do your own research and get medical guidance.

The things that have helped her the most are Adequan injections which are polysulfated glycosaminoglycan and a hyaluronic acid supplement called Baxyl. The Adequan actually goes to rebuild cartilage in affected joints and is more of a cure than a band aid. Hyaluronic acid acts as a cushion and a lubricant which relieves pain.

She doesn't limp anymore even after a hard play so I know it is working. The human version of Adequan is called Arteparon but it is the exact same thing.

thank you guys for the nice comments.
and Ema, I guess you are referring to the lab in your profile. I hope she gets better. Joint replacement in dogs has come a long way, but I hope it doesn't get to that. I have heard a lot about the Hyaluronic Acid injections. I guess I will have to start looking into that.

regards

Have you been examined properly by a specialist hmnr? Osteoarthritis that is not a slow progression often has an underlying cause such as an autoimmune illness.

hi Sea,
I have a sports medicine specialist who keeps having to see me and he really isnt helpful. He keeps sending me to MRIs and physio. As for my hip, i saw a world renowned orthopedic surgeon, but he never tried to figure out if there is an autoimmune cause. I dont know much about rheumatoid arthritis but nobody has suspected that yet. I mean there are mechanical reasons for many of these. I had hip clicking since I was younger. My neck got hurt when I was playing squash and i hit the wall pretty bad. I just think my joints are very weak.

Old thread, but just for the record: mine, mainly in small joints, results I think from tryptase - from mast cells. Mine comes and goes, is seemingly not overall progressive.
