Saw my doc today and got a referral for sinus ct scan, amazingly they could do the scan that afternoon which i did. I havent seen my doc since the ct scan but a quick word with the radiologist said that it looked clear but a doc will look deeper into it and write a full report. My doc was thinking it is probably fungal sinusitis and i have a referral for a fungal blood test which i will do in a few weeks when i have other tests due.
SO i think having clear ct sort of proves its not fungal and she said no polyps. I will say that my post nasal drip has eased and sinuses probably clear due to being on day 13 of 15 on augmentin. At this stage i think it shows that my chronic sinusitis is due to bacterial infection, it does improve with antibiotics but improvement isnt sustained.
From what i have read/researched it says many chronic sinusitis sufferers in my position is from immune defiencies. Mostly its from immunoglobulin defiencies but my results have alway been high normal or high(probably indicating infection), so i think all i can put this down to is my crappy nk function and also 2 out of 3 blood tests show im neutropenic. I will have to talk it over more with my doc, but until they have a sure fire way to improve our immune function, im left with going off and on antibiotics. Immunovir did help at the start of the year and when i had to take a break from them was when the sinusitis struck back. ALso maybe instead of cycle immunovir 2 months on and 1 month off, maybe shorter on and off cycle eg 4 weeks on and 1 week off????
Dam sinuses.
