A remedy for POTS - it worked for me

I realise I may be the only person this works for, but I'm putting it out there just in case.

The recipe is:

1 generous teaspoon of cocoa powder
1 generous teaspoon of runny honey
A pinch or two of ground ginger (I use 1/32 teaspoon)
A pinch or two of ground turmeric (I use 1/32 teaspoon)

Mix together into a thick paste and eat it off the spoon. Take it five time a day - once before each meal, once after dinner and once before going to bed.

After 2-3 weeks I noticed I wasn't getting dizzy or faint anymore. It's so nice to stand in the kitchen now and not have to go and lie down in the middle of doing something for fear of falling down.

its the tumeric.

i cant find much on PR about turmeric but its definately worth researching.

i am not having any allergic reactions to the ground powder and am slowly building up.

i just currently add a teaspoon in a pot of stew.

its interesting too that it has a high level of glutathione i believe.

Turmeric doesn't improve my POTS. Neither does ginger or cocoa.

i havent been trying it long enough yet to see and actually havent started with the ginger yet. the cocoa ingredient i dont understand.

its the tumeric.

Yes maybe Ram, also cocoa though, is a vasoconstrictor so it may help those stretchy viens to constrict a bit.

Turmeric is said to stabilise blood sugar levels among other properties

Honey though, will exacerbate IBS (due to the high fructose to glucose ration i think - its better to eat sugar than honey if you have IBS though glucose (glucondin) is best).

It might be the theophylline content of the cocoa powder that is having a good effect on your POTS. Theophylline is a known treatment for POTS. You can usually buy theophylline tablets without prescription, though be careful with dosing, as too high a dose can cause some toxicity.

Of course, nothing tastes quite as good as chocolate.

my old CFS specialist told me to have tumeric every day as it can help ME/CFS people.

The cocoa.. maybe that is helping too as wasnt there a study done in which it was found that taking 80%? cocoa chocolate helped some with ME/CFS.

Ginger if Im remembering correctly I think is a stimulant but also balancing herb and also increases circulation.

The honey thou... that could be more of a hinder then a help for many of us for various reasons (feeds candida and also would give a sudden sugar hit which could end up leading to a hypoglycemia after effect due to spiking insulin up).

Honey will cause a sugar spike, but when mixed with the cocoa it doesn't seem to (at least for me). It might be that the fat in the cocoa slows the release of the sugar, but I'm only guessing.

This recipe has also fixed my bad sugar cravings, which my waistline is very happy about :)

I'm surprised that honey would make IBS worse. A friend of mine (and his mum) fixed their IBS with manuka honey and won't do without it. Maybe manuka is an exception.

Tumeric has worked for a number of POTS patients on Dinet. Reputed benefits include stabilisation of mast cells and reduced cytokine elaboration.

yeah acording to research done at Monash Uni Australia

low FODMAPS diet guidelines - Sue Shepherd has quite e few books and a webpage on it.

honey is worse for IBS than sugar

It is about the fructose to glucose ratio and honey is high in fructose

which creates those nasty gases

The diet works for most people whom I know who have tried it for IBS and is cliically tested and trialed etc

In Ayruveda, Honey is a Gold Standard Medicine...

I dont have it myself but I found out that honey becomes toxic/poison when put in hot water or cooked...

I think the advice was to let the drink cool first but cant remember...

Why did you combine these ? Had you tried these separately to see if any one of these helped
your pots ?

Fwiw, I feel better, less dizzy, when I use certain foods, supplements or meds but I still fail
the pmttt and still feel the blood rushing back into my upper body when I lay down. Any
Drug with codeine makes me feel as if my oi is gone. But like I said, it's just in how I perceive my oi.

So is this just a change in how you feel or is it helping your circulation ? Do you pass the pmttt ?

I'm going to try this regardless. Mainly because I try anything that involves using cocoa. Lol. Tc .. X

Still multiple thumbs up for turmeric...

POTS considerably improved as have I but its due to a combination factor rather than just one thing...

It was a bit of an accident. It started with just cocoa and honey so that I could get loads of cocoa into me in an easy way. I have always felt a bit better for taking cocoa in that the crashes aren't so bad or inexplicable.

Then I read that ginger was anti-viral and possibly immune-modulating, so I added that to see if it would help. It seemed to help balance my sugar levels so that I wasn't feeling like I desperately needed to eat something when meal times came.

Then I read that turmeric was also anti-viral and possibly immune-modulating, so that got added. I noticed that it fixed my nagging background sore throat.

Then - ta da - after a couple of weeks the dizziness had gone and I no longer felt like the blood was pooling into the bottom of my legs whenever I stood still for a few minutes. I haven't taken the pmttt, so I can't say.

I think it's a combination thing, but it works so I'm not too fussed.

Thanks. I liked the sounds of this combo. It looks like 3 of these ingredients are high in oxalates so it's iffy for me. I'll try it once and see how it goes tho. Tc ... X

If honey is a problem for people, I guess you could replace it with grapeseed oil or flaxseed oil, but it won't taste as nice :)
For me though, I think the honey is contributing to the effect.

Please post if it helps. It would be great to know if I'm not the only one this combo works for.

Honey actually make me feel less cruddy than refined sugar, or brown sugar. I use sugar in the raw when I can't use honey..But I'm surprised so many have problems with it. Its so good for you holistically. I use organic raw honey and am completely fine with it(course I don't use a ton of it either).
