I'm trying to find people who became ill in Incline Village.....do any of them post here? I have some questions I'd like to ask them.

I don't remember any of them posting on here, but maybe others do. I know one, but he doesn't post. I can tell you about him in chat or a conversation.

I'm curious about the water supply there at the time as well as the industry and how those people are today. Do you think many of them are still alive? Does anyone know of a good place to find out more about all that happened? Newspapers? That book that I've not read yet "O......(not sure of the spelling) Web" Thanks for the info about prohealth heapsreal I'll go there and see what else I can learn. I'll message you Sushi.

Hi Judi,

Most of those patients are still sick and suffering. Some have died (lymphoma developed for some). The book is Osler's Web by Hilary Johnson.

For sure read Osler's Web. This is the best source of info. Incline Village is a pristine resort area in the mountains near Lake Tahoe.

One of the survivors, (Erik Johnson), has achieved total remission as long as he stays away from moldy areas. His story is in Ritchie Shoemaker's book Mold Warriors.

An interesting thought just occurred to me. There are clusters and there are sporadic cases. Would it be possible for a sporadic case (with a different cause) to occur in the same area and time frame as a cluster?

Sorry for the slow response - bad day yesterday - my own fault though. I personally don't think water plays that big of a roll per se, but I really am curious. I've been doing a lot of reading about Melamine (which we ingest in alarming amounts or so it seems) and I was curious about what village life was like back then. I did read that in um... 1983 there was some kind of a clean water act that had gone into effect and Incline Village needed to make changes because they were no longer able to be compliant. They bought land to build something new, but it wasn't done in time. At any rate, because they were not compliant between facilities they had to do alternative things with the effluent. I've read they were dumping some of it into I forgot which water way and some rancher was using it to irrigate ...whatever that means specifically I've yet to find out, but it certainly doesn't sound safe. Flame retardants would have been in washing machine waste water (I haven't sorted out which flame retardants would have been in their water yet)

They opened a new treatment plant in 1984 and I can't help but wonder if they had some accidents while making the change? Could people who drank water gotten a little too much melamine/flame retardant in their systems? I have no idea.

I am beginning to think that I and others may be having reactions to melamine. I become sicker when I eat things that have melamine in them. I had lesions on my body and as I have decreased my exposure to melamine I'm slowly improving. The thing that concerns me is that the stomach may store it in fat while other organs excrete some of it.

At any rate, I'm curious about what people who became sick did for a living and recreation as well as how much water they might have been drinking. If people were eating food grown where that rancher irrigated? If food was even grown there.

If anyone takes away anything from this post it would be this.....if you have a sofa/chair that you acquired after they started dousing them in flame retardants I would tell you to throw it out and look for some old person how has furniture that's flammable. withen 24 hours of throwing out my sofa i regained strength in my arm and leg and stopped having pain and fevers

I still have questions about how this plays into other knowledge like Dr. Cheney and the heart, but I just keep thinking maybe our hearts aren't strong enough to fight all the plastic inside of us?

Hi Judi,

I lived --and became sick with me/cfs-- in Lake Tahoe in the middle 1980's. Though I lived on the South Shore I skied and spent a lot of time in Incline Villiage. Don't know how much help I can be, always thought I 'caught' the illness after having a casual talk with someone at Incline that mentioned he'd just gotten over the worse case of flu ever.

Perhaps coincidental, but I became ill almost immediately after this meeting.

Thanks for the information Lou, I'm not trying to rule out people passing the illness from one person to another. I'm just curious about what it was like there. I've noticed that their's a superfund site near by in CA and another to the East in NV. I'm just wondering if there was any industry in the area.....what did most people there do for a living back then? Did you have a private well for your water?? And is douglas county near Incline Village? Any things that you care to share would be appreciated. I've never been to your neck of the world and so it's difficult to imagine something I've not experienced

I think you're on a good tack here Judi. I remember reading a detailed official report on US water toxicity a while ago, with reference to Incline, and it was quite suggestive, but I'm afraid I've just searched for it and couldn't find what I was looking for. The best I could find was this site, which you may already be aware of:
http://www.ewg.org/tap-water/reportfindings

You might find that posting this question in the Addressing Biotoxin, Chemical and Food Sensitivies forum might put you in touch with some people who know a bit about this subject.

Good luck. :)

Lake Tahoe is a resort area at high elevation, around 6000' at the lake and surrounded by peaks, some above 10,000'. So, no industry, per se, other than casinos, winter sports, and general tourism. My work then allowed flexibilty as to where I lived, but I actually worked near Santa Barbara on a rotational basis. I haven't lived there in a long time, but I'm pretty sure back then we all mostly just drank tap water. Yes, if Incline Villiage is not in Douglas county, it is for sure very near to the county's western border.

To the east, on the NV side, it is not hard to imagine a need for a superfund, much military goings-on, no telling what all they were testing.
