Sinus Infections Linked to Fatigue

All of my symptoms started with a chronic sinus infection that showed up on a CT scan. Therefore I found this article interesting. I still get sinus infections to this day. I am going to start using my neti pot again daily which is what I used to clear my last one up. I remember another member here claiming a jaw infection caused his chronic fatigue and upon treatment for it his fatigue went into remission. http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/reporter/index.html?ID=1220

The netti pot is used with warm salt water. That will clear out bacteria. It is a ritual in India to use one often from what I know.

i spray a salty water up there but the only thing that really helps is doxyxcycline, when i stop this antibiotic these sinusitis comes back. I have been waiting for some immunovir to strengthen my immune system but there slow getting my order to me so yesterday i started a strong herbal stimulant with astragalus, shiitake mushroom and olive leave, all in good doses, im hoping this will help.

Teeth in the maxilla basically sit at the sinus floor. If you have any kind of root canals, or infections, or extractions which didn't heal properly you are going to get sinus infections.

When I went into flow-blown CFS, I noticed that any mucous membrane immediately became subject to inflammation and infection. That includes gut, sinuses, throat. It is a constant battle to using salt water and the neti pot to keep the sinus infections at bay. Your observation is right on target though.

Having tried the neti-pot before I find the neilmed bottle, the one you squirt up your nose to be more effective. The neilmed provides more force, and at least for me better results.

So what got you out of full blown CFS?

I've posted this on other threads but it is relevant here too.

I have had chronic sinus infections for years and years and...

The thing that has cleared them up, almost magically, is treating gut infections with gut specific antibiotics. Xifaxan is the one that fits with my gut profile. Probably, since 80% of the immune system is in the gut, it is helping the immune system cope. The antibiotic I took does not act directly on the sinuses, so that is my best guess as to why it works so well for me.

I think that is very right: all the mucus membranes, from those in your sinuses and nasal cavity, down to your throat, esophagus, stomach, and intestines, are all subject to inflammation once you have ME/CFS.

I guess this is to be expected, as respiratory viruses like enterovirus live and replicate primarily in the mucus membranes. Dr John Chia certainly found that the stomach mucus membranes of ME/CFS patients were loaded with enteroviruses.

When I caught the virus that eventually caused my ME/CFS, this virus also spread around my social circle, and the majority of people that caught this virus, even though they did not get ME/CFS, all developed chronic nasal/sinus congestion/inflammation (with these people getting thick mucus being produced all the time in the nasal cavity). Even now, nearly 10 years after this virus went around my social circle, these infected people all still have the same chronic nasal/sinus congestion. It is permanent.

I found my chronic nasal/sinus congestion and inflammation were strongly linked to my anxiety symptoms: whenever the inflammation in my nasal/sinus mucus membrane increased, my anxiety symptoms would shoot up.

I searched high and low for drugs or supplements that could reduce my nasal/sinus mucus membrane inflammation, and thus my anxiety.

The best anti-nasal/sinus inflammation supplements I found were these:

N-acetylglucosamine (NAG) 500 to 1000 mg once or twice daily (NAG significantly reduces the sinus inflammation created by this virus — it appears to act as a nasal/sinus decongestant — and NAG greatly reduces the general sense of inflammation you feel within the head).
Propolis 1000 mg twice daily.
Grape seed extract 300 mg daily.
Reishi 1000 mg twice daily.
Echinacea 1000 mg twice daily.
Cat’s claw 1000 mg twice daily.
Vitamin A 25,000 IU daily.

These supplements all helped to reduce anxiety as well as nasal/sinus inflammation — especially NAG, which has powerful effects.

Same here. I never had sinus problems until I got sick. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea almost a year before i got a ME/CFS diagnosis. I use a very expensive CPAP machine to treat my sleep apnea. I have to do a sinus rinse 2-3 times per day. Plus, I use Flonase and nightime sinus to keep my sinus clear at night, so I can breath. Flying, trips over mountain passes and even just changes in barometric pressure make it much worse.

I have seen an ENT specialist a number of times. The last time all he could propose is an operation and said there was only a 50% chance it would make it better. So, I'll stick with sinus rinses and drugs.

The worst part about doing sinus rinses is being embarrassed when I bend down to pick something I'll sometimes have a rush of salt water come pouring out my nose. Have have had some people look real scared when this happens.
